The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, recently launched the ‘Non-Ionizing Radiation Index Level’ platform in Qatar. This platform provides the public with a simple and easy way to understand and monitor radiation frequencies in the country. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) aims to enhance protection of individuals from electromagnetic frequencies emanating from various sources such as electrical installations, radio, television, and cellular networks.

The radiation monitoring project in Qatar has been successful in reducing emissions and maintaining them within safe limits according to international standards. The Non-Ionizing Radiation Frequency Analysis Unit works to monitor radioactive contamination in Qatar, contributing to the protection and sustainability of the environment. The unit continuously updates its tools and programmes to implement operational plans within the sustainable strategy of MoECC.

The Director of the Radiation Protection Department at MoECC, Eng Abdul Rahman Al Abdul Jabbar, highlighted the importance of launching the Electromagnetic Frequency Monitoring Unit platform as part of efforts to ensure a safe and sustainable local environment. The platform enables the public to participate in monitoring radiation levels and indicators throughout the day in all regions of the country. The national project for monitoring non-ionizing radiation is the first of its kind in the Gulf region and the Middle East, emphasizing Qatar’s commitment to environmental protection.

The project is also considered one of the largest on a global scale in monitoring and controlling electromagnetic radiation. It provides high-precision data on radiation levels instantaneously through fixed stations and portable devices spread throughout the country. The Head of the Frequency Analysis Unit, Eng Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Muhanna, highlighted the importance of these stations in identifying radiation sources and ensuring levels within permissible limits according to international standards.

The quarterly reports confirm that non-ionizing radiation levels in Qatar are very low compared to international standards. Through the new platform, the public can easily access and understand the data on radiation levels in the country. The platform uses graphs in different colors to represent radiation levels, making it simple for individuals to monitor and understand the information. It is an essential tool for ensuring the safety and well-being of the population in Qatar.

Overall, the launch of the ‘Non-Ionizing Radiation Index Level’ platform marks a significant step towards enhancing environmental protection and sustainability in Qatar. The project demonstrates the country’s commitment to monitoring and controlling electromagnetic radiation to ensure a safe and healthy environment for its citizens. The platform provides valuable data and information to the public, enabling them to actively participate in monitoring radiation levels and contributing to the overall environmental efforts in the country.
