Eid Al Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is a significant occasion for the Muslim community. While the exact date is yet to be confirmed this year, astronomical projections suggest that Eid Al Adha is likely to fall on June 16. Dr. Taha Rabeh predicts that the start of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, could be on June 7, leading to a potential Eid Al Adha date of June 16. The highlight of Eid Al Adha is the sacrifice of an animal, symbolising the prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son. The meat is traditionally divided into three parts – one for the family, one for relatives and friends, and one for those in need.

Eid Al Adha is not only a time for symbolic sacrifices but also for family gatherings, special meals, and the exchange of gifts. Preparation for the festival involves various activities, such as buying animals for sacrifice. Due to the high demand during Eid, prices for goats can range from BD60-BD70, depending on factors like size, weight, age, and region. Some individuals opt to purchase a smaller portion of the animal rather than the entire goat or cow. To make room for the excess meat after the sacrifice, some families even invest in additional refrigeration.

As the community eagerly awaits Eid Al Adha, locals are already immersed in preparations for the auspicious occasion. Mahvish Shoib shared that she and her husband have visited the farm twice to see the goats, as they usually take the goat a week before Eid. Rizwan Ali mentioned that he pre-books the goats about two weeks in advance due to the high demand. Bismah Hassan highlighted the spirit of generosity during Eid Al Adha, where families cook a lot of food, gather with loved ones, wear special clothes, and celebrate for three days.

The essence of togetherness, charity, and celebration is palpable in the air as the community prepares for Eid Al Adha. This significant festival not only commemorates an important moment in Islamic history but also fosters a sense of unity and generosity among Muslims worldwide. The spirit of Eid Al Adha extends beyond the symbolic sacrifices to encompass the values of family, community, and giving back to those in need. As the auspicious occasion draws closer, Muslims around the world eagerly anticipate the festivities that come with Eid Al Adha.
