The Ministry of Municipality’s Agricultural Research Department hosted a workshop at the Rawdat Al Faras Research Station in Doha, Qatar, focusing on the drying of dates. The workshop was well attended by various stakeholders in the industry, including palm farm owners, engineers, agricultural guides, private companies, and palm farmers. Engineer Amer Fayyad Al-Kuhais presented important information on pre-harvest, harvest, and post-harvest processes related to date drying. He also discussed the evolution of drying methods since 2006 and highlighted the use of date drying rooms covered with polycarbonate, showcasing the advancements in the field.

One of the key topics covered during the workshop was the significance of proper pre-harvest practices to ensure high-quality dates for drying. The attendees learned about the optimal timing for harvesting dates, as well as the best practices for post-harvest handling to preserve the fruit’s quality. The workshop also delved into the various methods of drying dates, with a focus on the use of specialized drying rooms covered with polycarbonate. This technology has been instrumental in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the drying process, resulting in better-quality dates for consumers.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for palm farm owners and other stakeholders to enhance their knowledge and skills in date drying techniques. Participants were able to gain insights from industry experts and researchers, learning about the latest advancements in the field. The event also served as a platform for networking and collaboration among professionals in the industry, fostering partnerships and knowledge sharing that can lead to further innovations in date drying practices.

The Agricultural Research Department is committed to supporting the agriculture sector in Qatar through research and innovation. By organizing workshops and events like the one on date drying, the department aims to empower farmers and industry professionals with the knowledge and tools they need to improve their practices. With a focus on sustainability and efficiency, the department is driving progress in the agriculture sector, ensuring the continued growth and success of Qatar’s palm farming industry.

Overall, the workshop on date drying at the Rawdat Al Faras Research Station was a resounding success, providing valuable insights and information to participants. The event highlighted the importance of proper pre-harvest, harvest, and post-harvest practices in ensuring high-quality dates for drying. The use of advanced technologies such as date drying rooms covered with polycarbonate has revolutionized the drying process, leading to better outcomes for palm farmers and consumers alike. As the agriculture sector in Qatar continues to evolve, initiatives like this workshop play a crucial role in driving innovation and sustainability in date production.
