The Ministry of Municipality in Doha, Qatar has made significant progress in its digital transformation project, completing 110 out of 400 services that are being developed to provide smart and automated services to the public and beneficiary companies. These digital services cover various sectors such as agriculture, food security, urban development, general services, and community services. The project, which began in 2023, includes the Ministry’s website, its Oun app, and solutions for the smart city. One of the recent smart solution projects completed is vehicle tracking and waste management for Al Wakra Municipality, with plans to do the same for other municipalities.

The project is being implemented by the General Cleanliness Department in coordination with the Mechanical Department. Sensor chips have been installed in waste containers to signal for unloading to the system equipped in vehicles. This system ensures that vehicles only go to full containers, saving time and efforts, preserving the environment, and reducing the number of trips. The Ministry is also set to launch a new version of the Oun app, which will be upgraded using artificial intelligence (AI) to make it easier for users to access services. By upgrading procedures and re-engineering services using AI and other modern technologies, the Ministry aims to make its services more efficient.

A major benefit of the digital transformation project is the ability to link with other government institutions to share data. This reduces the need for applicants to upload documents and certificates every time they apply for a service. The project aims to develop all services provided by the Ministry to sectors such as municipalities, urban planning, agriculture, fisheries, public services, and joint services. It will bring about a qualitative leap towards smart city solutions by developing 400 services with a comprehensive development of the technological infrastructure.

The digital transformation project also includes establishing a unified and integrated electronic portal for services and providing multiple electronic platforms for communication and interaction. It will raise the level of technical support and incorporate advanced technologies like blockchain and an advanced decentralized smart database for transaction validity and safety. Additionally, Big Data analytics will support decision-making, improve service and user experience, increase operational efficiency, and forecast risks.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Municipality in Doha, Qatar is making great strides in its digital transformation project to provide smart and automated services to the public and beneficiary companies. With 110 out of 400 services completed, the project covers various sectors and includes initiatives such as vehicle tracking and waste management. By using AI and other modern technologies, the Ministry aims to upgrade its services and make them more efficient for users. The project’s key features include a unified electronic portal, multiple platforms for communication, and advanced technologies like blockchain and Big Data analytics to support decision-making and improve user experience.
