In June 2024, the Ministry of Labour in Oman cracked down on violating expat workers, leading to the deportation of more than 900 individuals. The General Directorate of Labour Welfare, along with the support of the Inspection Unit of the Security and Safety Services Corporation, conducted inspection campaigns targeting establishments in the private sector. These efforts were part of a larger initiative to regulate the labour market in line with Oman Vision 2040.

Throughout the month, a total of 1,366 violating workers were arrested, with 919 of them being deported back to their home countries. This marked a significant increase in the number of expats removed from Oman compared to previous months. The Ministry’s objective is to ensure compliance with labour laws and regulations, as well as to create a more organized and efficient workforce in the country.

The intensification of inspection campaigns is a reflection of Oman’s commitment to upholding standards in the labour market. The efforts extend to all governorates within the Sultanate, addressing issues related to expatriate workers and their employers. By taking decisive action against violators, the government aims to create a more sustainable and fair working environment for all individuals in the country.

The first half of 2024 saw a total of 9,042 male and female workers being arrested for various violations, with 7,612 individuals being deported as a result. These numbers highlight the scale of the problem and the need for continued monitoring and enforcement measures. By cracking down on violators, the Ministry of Labour is sending a clear message that non-compliance will not be tolerated.

Overall, the deportation of more than 900 expat workers in June 2024 showcases Oman’s commitment to enforcing labour laws and regulations. The Ministry of Labour’s efforts to regulate the labour market and address violations are essential for creating a fair and just working environment. Moving forward, it is crucial for all stakeholders to cooperate and adhere to the established rules to ensure a sustainable and harmonious labour market in Oman. Through consistent enforcement and monitoring, the country can achieve its goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
