Spain’s Alvaro Morata scored the first goal in their Euro 2024 bid against Croatia, inspiring a 3-0 victory. The lack of an elite number nine in Spain has been a weak point, but Morata, who has played for top clubs like Juventus, Real Madrid, and Chelsea, set up La Roja for a perfect start. Despite limping off in the 67th minute, Morata confirmed he would be fit for Spain’s next match against Italy.

Morata capitalized on a pass from Fabian Ruiz to put Spain ahead after Croatia started to assert themselves in the match. The goal opened up the game, leading to two more goals from Ruiz and Dani Carvajal. With this goal, Morata became the fourth top goal scorer in Spanish international history and tied as the third top scorer in the Euros.

Despite facing criticism from some Spain fans during a friendly match in March, Morata’s performance against Croatia showed his resilience and ability to make an impact. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente praised the team’s effort to inspire national pride, noting the lack of it in the country. Morata’s goal against Croatia was a positive step in achieving this goal.

While not on the same level as top-class forwards like Mbappe or Kane, Morata’s performance against Croatia proved he can be a difference-maker for Spain. After a concerning end to his club season with Atletico Madrid, where he struggled to find the net, Morata’s recent form and goal-scoring ability have solidified his position as a key player for Spain.

Morata’s determination to bounce back after facing criticism from fans and his coach’s confidence in his abilities have paid off, as seen in the match against Croatia. Despite a minor injury, Morata is ready to face Italy in the upcoming match. His performance has not only silenced his critics but also instilled hope in Spain fans and the team itself. The victory over Croatia marks a positive start to Spain’s Euro 2024 campaign.
