Doha, Qatar – The Ministry of Interior has issued a reminder to citizens and residents regarding responsible conduct during the upcoming National Day celebrations. The ministry emphasized the importance of observing Qatar National Day traditions and maintaining public order while expressing national pride. The announcement, made on January 3, 2023, aims to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone during the festivities.

The directive applies to all celebrations taking place across Qatar and underscores the need for adherence to existing laws and regulations. Authorities will be actively monitoring celebration areas to maintain traffic flow and public safety. This year’s National Day falls on December 18th, and preparations are already underway throughout the country.

Ensuring a Civilized Qatar National Day

According to the Ministry of Interior, the core principle behind the guidance is to ensure that all Qatar National Day celebrations reflect the country’s authentic cultural values and present a positive image to the world. The event is a significant demonstration of loyalty and national belonging for both citizens and the large expatriate population. Maintaining a respectful and orderly atmosphere is considered crucial to the success of the national holiday.

Prohibited Activities

The ministry specifically cautioned against several behaviors deemed disruptive or dangerous. These include the use of spray paints, which can cause damage and obstruct visibility, and any actions that impede traffic flow, such as random stopping or large, obstructive gatherings. Additionally, the ministry warned against exiting or sitting on moving vehicles, a practice that poses a serious safety risk.

Furthermore, the statement urged the public to respect personal privacy and refrain from any conduct that could be considered a disturbance. These guidelines are consistent with broader efforts to maintain public decorum and safety during large-scale events in Qatar. The Ministry of Interior has previously implemented similar measures during Eid and other national holidays.

Focus on Public Safety and Traffic Management

The Ministry of Interior plans to deploy increased security personnel and implement comprehensive traffic management strategies throughout the celebration period. These measures are designed to proactively address potential issues and ensure a smooth and secure experience for all attendees. The focus on traffic management is particularly important given the anticipated increase in vehicular activity.

The ministry also stated its commitment to taking firm legal action against any violations of public order or safety regulations. This includes addressing improper behavior swiftly and in accordance with Qatari law. Penalties for violations can range from fines to more severe legal consequences, depending on the nature of the offense. Relatedly, authorities are also emphasizing responsible use of social media during the celebrations, discouraging the spread of misinformation or provocative content.

The announcement comes as Qatar continues to build its reputation as a safe and welcoming destination. The country recently hosted the FIFA World Cup 2022, an event that showcased its infrastructure and organizational capabilities to a global audience. Maintaining this positive image is a key priority for the government, and responsible conduct during Qatar National Day is seen as an important part of that effort.

The Ministry of Interior expressed its appreciation for the ongoing cooperation of the public in upholding these standards. This collaboration is considered essential for ensuring the success of the national occasion and fostering a sense of collective responsibility. The government also encourages participation in officially sanctioned National Day events, which are designed to be family-friendly and culturally enriching.

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Interior will continue to assess the situation and adjust its security and traffic management plans as needed. The effectiveness of these measures will be evaluated based on real-time data and feedback from the public. Further announcements regarding specific road closures or event restrictions may be issued closer to December 18th, so residents and visitors are advised to stay informed through official channels.
