The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) in Doha, Qatar, has partnered with Qatar Charity and the Friends of the Environment Center to launch a training program called “Our Planet, Our Responsibility.” The program is designed to discuss the latest developments in environmental issues and showcase critical humanitarian and economic solutions at the student level to promote sustainability.

The target audience for the program includes middle school students (both boys and girls) and their parents. A total of 20 boys’ and 20 girls’ middle schools participated, with five students accompanied by a supervisor from each school. The aim of the program is to increase environmental awareness among students, develop research and scientific thinking skills, and promote community projects that offer environmental solutions.

One of the key objectives of the program is to equip students with the skills to assess the environmental reality, analyze surrounding problems scientifically, plan environmental activities within the school setting, and evaluate the mechanisms and impact of these activities. This holistic approach is intended to foster a deeper understanding of environmental issues and empower students to take positive action.

Maryam Al Nasf Al Buainain, Director of the Schools and Students Affairs Department at MoEHE, highlighted the ministry’s commitment to participating in the program. She stressed the importance of raising awareness among individuals and the local community about their responsibilities towards protecting the environment in all its forms. The program aims to instill a sense of environmental stewardship and environmental responsibility in the students.

Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Hajri, Director of the Programs and Community Development Department at Qatar Charity, expressed his pride in launching the “Our Planet, Our Responsibility” program in collaboration with the ministry. He underscored the significance of enhancing environmental awareness among students and developing their scientific and research skills to tackle the growing environmental challenges. The program seeks to empower students to become active agents of change in their communities.

Overall, the “Our Planet, Our Responsibility” program represents a collaborative effort between the MoEHE, Qatar Charity, and the Friends of the Environment Center to promote environmental sustainability among middle school students in Qatar. By fostering environmental awareness, research skills, and community projects, the program aims to equip students with the knowledge and tools needed to address complex environmental issues and contribute towards a more sustainable future for the planet. This initiative serves as a testament to the commitment of these organizations to educate and empower the next generation of environmental leaders.
