Ministry to assess teacher competency in three compulsory subjects

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) in Qatar has launched an initiative to evaluate the competency of teachers in private schools and kindergartens for the 2025-2026 academic year, focusing on Arabic, Islamic, and Qatari history subjects. The project aims to enhance the quality of private education and improve learning outcomes in core national subjects.

According to the MoEHE, the assessment will establish a unified professional framework to ensure the effective implementation of compulsory curricula, contributing to improved teaching performance and the promotion of effective educational practices. This move is part of Qatar’s efforts to raise the quality of education and empower teachers, the ministry said.

Teacher Competency Assessment

The MoEHE has outlined a comprehensive approach to implementing the project, which includes distributing an official circular regarding the use of an electronic form for assessments. Introductory workshops will be organized for schools to familiarize them with the assessment process. The ministry will monitor performance through periodic reports and feedback to ensure continuous improvement.

The assessment results will serve as a primary reference for professional competency reports and professional development programs for teachers. This data will be crucial in identifying areas where teachers need additional training or support, enabling targeted interventions to enhance their capabilities.

Enhancing Educational Outcomes

Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education Affairs Omar Abdulaziz Al Naama emphasized that teachers are the cornerstone of the educational process. “Without teachers, no educational system can thrive or progress,” he noted. The project is designed to support teachers and develop their professional performance, ultimately leading to better educational outcomes.

Director of the Private Schools and Kindergartens Department and Acting Director of the Private Schools Licensing Department Dr. Rania Mohammed explained that the evaluation criteria will be based on official classroom visits and student performance results. A significant portion of the evaluation weight will be dedicated to student success, highlighting the importance of educational outcomes in the assessment.

Implementation and Monitoring

The MoEHE has assured that the project will be implemented in a way that supports the continuous development of the learning environment in private schools. The ministry will work closely with schools to ensure a smooth implementation process, providing necessary guidance and support.

As Qatar continues to invest in its education system, the success of this project will depend on effective implementation and ongoing monitoring. The assessment results are expected to provide valuable insights into the competency of teachers and identify areas for improvement, informing future professional development initiatives.
