The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation recently signed a cooperation agreement with Oman Cables Industry SAOG to launch the third edition of the ‘SHE STEMS’ social development programme. The goal of this agreement is to empower Omani women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and industry, ultimately leading to a better and more sustainable future. The program also aims to enhance strategic partnerships in the areas of education and vocational training.

Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, emphasized the importance of this partnership in creating a future where innovation has no boundaries. Through the SHE STEMS programme, Omani women are equipped with the necessary tools to excel in STEM fields, aligning with Oman’s Vision 2040. The initiative showcases a commitment to fostering a diverse and resilient economy, promoting technological advancement, innovation, and equal opportunities.

Participants in the SHE STEMS programme undergo rigorous pre-selection assessments in English and mathematics to ensure they are prepared for the challenges ahead. Successful candidates receive a monthly allowance from OCI and benefit from training and coaching provided by the Modern Gulf Institute (MGI), a leader in leadership and management development. The program is open to unemployed Omani women aged 24-30 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering who are willing to undergo assessments.

OCI continues its partnership with a headhunter consulting company to aid graduates in job placement and soft skills development, facilitating a seamless transition into the workforce. Erkan Aydogdu, CEO of Oman Cables Industry, expressed pride in launching the third edition of the SHE STEMS programme, illustrating a commitment to empowering Omani women in key industrial sectors. With over 2,000 candidates already applied, there is evident eagerness among Omani women to join the manufacturing industry.

In the 2024 edition of the programme, a module on Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be introduced to enhance participants’ knowledge and leverage AI capabilities to achieve new professional goals. This module will provide participants with a contemporary understanding of AI technologies, allowing them to explore this rapidly advancing field. The program demonstrates OCI’s dedication to preparing graduates for both traditional industries and cutting-edge technology, reflecting their social ambitions and belief in the pivotal role of Omani women and future generations in shaping the nation’s future.
