The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, will be part of the delegation led by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. During the UNGA meetings from September 22 to 28, HE Sheikh Mohammed will hold many bilateral meetings with Qatari officials, as stated by Dr. Majed bin Mohammad Al Ansari, the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). The State of Qatar will continue its efforts to broker a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with all mediators working tirelessly to end the war in Gaza.

Efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza have been ongoing, with HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs receiving a phone call from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Additionally, a meeting was held in Doha with HE Speaker of the House of Commons of the British Parliament, Lindsay Hoyle, to discuss the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories. HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, chaired Qatar’s delegation to the meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Developments in the Gaza Strip in Jordan’s capital, Amman.

At the 68th IAEA General Conference, HE Secretary-General of the MOFA, Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, addressed the severe situation in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. HE Minister of State at the MOFA, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi chaired Qatar’s delegation to the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee meetings in Madrid, where the importance of the two-state solution and the recognition of the State of Palestine were highlighted.

Dr. Al Ansari underlined HE Al Muraikhi’s participation in the 162nd Arab League Council and reiterated Qatar’s condemnation of the Israeli occupation’s actions, including the storming of the Palestinian Jordan Valley region and the bombing of an UNRWA school in Gaza. Qatar’s commitment to denouncing the ongoing atrocities in Gaza and holding the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes was emphasized. The importance of reaching a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire through coordination with regional and international partners was also highlighted by HE Al Muraikhi.

On the sidelines of the 5th Observance of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, HE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, held meetings with officials from Palestine, Yemen, Liberia, Somalia, the World Food Program, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the Caretaker Government of Afghanistan. The discussions focused on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the ongoing efforts to address the situation. Qatar remains actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to seek a resolution to the conflict in Gaza and ensure the protection of civilians in the region.

In conclusion, Qatar’s representatives at the UNGA and various international meetings have reiterated the country’s commitment to seeking a ceasefire in Gaza and addressing the humanitarian crisis in the region. The importance of international cooperation and coordination to achieve lasting peace and security was emphasized, with Qatar playing a key role in diplomatic efforts to support the Palestinian people and promote stability in the region. As the situation in Gaza continues to unfold, Qatar remains steadfast in its support for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and the recognition of the rights of the Palestinian people.
