The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) in Doha, Qatar has recently unveiled new curricula strategies for the academic year 2024-25. These strategies are aligned with the Third National Development Strategy and aim to strike a balance between academic, skill-based, social, and psychological aspects of students according to their needs. MoEHE’s Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs, Maha Al Ruwaili, emphasized the importance of providing education that meets the needs of students and equips them with the skills and values necessary to face future challenges.

The new education plans will encompass all educational stages from kindergarten to high school, focusing on fostering 21st century skills such as digital competence, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking. The goal is to align with global best practices in education that promote both physical and mental health among students. Kindergarten students will benefit from free reading classes as part of their fun meeting classes, as well as increased sports activities to enhance their overall development.

Elementary school students will have the opportunity to further enhance their linguistic and artistic skills, along with life skills that boost their motivation to learn. Preparatory school students will receive additional emphasis on Arabic and English reading and writing classes, with the inclusion of topics that cater to their interests and help develop their skills. Secondary school students, on the other hand, will be required to complete graduation projects that showcase their research and creative abilities, as well as contribute volunteering hours to foster a sense of social responsibility.

In addition to the curriculum enhancements, changes to the school day schedule have been implemented for the upcoming academic year. Teaching hours for preparatory school students will now extend until 1:30 pm on most days, with Thursdays ending at 12:40 pm. Secondary schools will also see their school day extended until 1:30 pm to accommodate the new curriculum initiatives. These adjustments aim to provide students with a more comprehensive and well-rounded education that prepares them for success in the future.

Overall, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar is committed to providing a quality education that meets the evolving needs of students and equips them with the skills and values required to navigate an increasingly complex world. The new curricula strategies for the academic year 2024-25 reflect a holistic approach to education, focusing not only on academic achievement but also on the development of essential 21st-century skills and the promotion of physical and mental well-being among students. By aligning with global best practices and incorporating innovative teaching methods, Qatar is setting a strong foundation for the future success of its students.
