The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) in Doha, Qatar has launched the tenth edition of the National Robotics Olympiad (NRO) with the theme “Earth Allies.” The event was attended by various officials, team coaches, judges, volunteers, and the organizing committee of the National Robotics Olympiad. The Olympiad included competitions for both boys and girls from elementary, middle, and high schools, showcasing their innovative problem-solving and technical skills related to robotics and artificial intelligence through competitions like Robo Mission, Robo Sport, and Future Innovators.
During the opening ceremony, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs Maha Zayed Al Qaqaa Al Ruwaili highlighted the significance of the National Robotics Olympiad 2024 as an educational legacy that allows students to demonstrate their diverse thinking skills, especially in designing and programming educational robots. The event represents the vision and aspirations of the State of Qatar, with this year’s theme, “Earth Allies,” aligning with Qatar’s Vision 2030. Al Ruwaili also expressed gratitude for the collaboration with partners at the Doha Institute of Science and Technology to support the competition and provide extracurricular training opportunities to enhance students’ digital skills.
The ceremony featured a special segment called “Be You,” showcasing interviews with winning students who represented Qatar in Gulf and regional competitions. One of the students, Abdul Ghani Al Saffar, a former student at Ali bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani Secondary School for Boys, is now majoring in cybersecurity at Doha Institute of Science and Technology. Al Saffar secured first place in the Gulf Hackathon competition in the Kingdom of Bahrain for his project, “Education Compass,” which employed artificial intelligence in education. His remarkable achievement was highlighted during the event.
The National Robotics Olympiad aims to promote innovation and education in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence among students from both public and private schools in Qatar. Through competitions like Robo Mission, Robo Sport, and Future Innovators, students have the opportunity to showcase their problem-solving abilities and technical skills.
