Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie recently honored the winners of the 2024 environmental drawing and essay competition. The Minister praised the environmental awareness among students from public schools in Qatar, emphasizing the importance of promoting environmental culture and sustainable awareness.

During the ceremony organized by the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME) in Kuwait, Minister Al Subaie highlighted the efforts made by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) to instill a culture of protecting and conserving the local environment as a national heritage. He stressed the need for all sectors of society to come together in supporting the country’s environmental protection and biodiversity enrichment efforts.

The MoECC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, has been conducting educational campaigns to enhance environmental awareness among state school students. This initiative aligns with Qatar’s Vision 2030 and the objectives of the Third National Development Strategy. Seven students from Qatar secured top places in the competition, which focused on the impact of coral reef degradation on marine life and beaches.

On the national level, students from various schools in Qatar excelled in both the environmental drawing and essay categories. This includes students from Al Wakra Secondary Girls’ School, Al Khor Academy, Zubeidah Secondary Girls’ School, Tariq Bin Ziyad Secondary Boys’ School, and Al Iman Secondary Girls’ School. The competition aims to celebrate regional environment awareness and highlight the importance of protecting marine ecosystems.

Minister Al Subaie expressed his pride in the students’ achievements and reiterated the ministry’s commitment to promoting environmental awareness among the youth. He emphasized the role of education in fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment and encouraged more schools to participate in similar initiatives. The Minister’s support for the students reflects the government’s dedication to sustainable development and environmental protection.

The collaboration between the MoECC and ROPME in organizing the competition demonstrates the importance of regional cooperation in addressing environmental challenges. By focusing on the impact of coral reef degradation, the competition raises awareness about the urgent need to protect marine ecosystems. The success of the Qatar-based students in the competition showcases the country’s commitment to environmental conservation and biodiversity preservation.

In conclusion, the 2024 environmental drawing and essay competition in Kuwait brought together students from across the region to showcase their talents and knowledge about environmental issues. The support from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change highlights the government’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. By encouraging students to participate in such competitions, Qatar is investing in the future generation of environmental stewards who will continue to advocate for the protection of our planet.
