Kuwait’s South Saad Al-Abdullah Housing Project Sees Significant Progress
The Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, Abdullatif Al-Meshari, recently inspected the South Saad Al-Abdullah Housing Project to review the latest developments in contracts and ongoing construction work. This visit reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the project, a crucial part of Kuwait’s ongoing housing development strategy.
Progress Update on Infrastructure Contracts
During his inspection, Minister Al-Meshari held a meeting with officials from the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) implementation sector. The meeting provided a comprehensive briefing on the progress of construction contracts and a detailed presentation outlining completion rates and work stages across the project. The project’s engineers presented updates on four active infrastructure contracts, including the key contract for main roads and related infrastructure services, valued at approximately KD 345 million (around $1 billion). This contract covers the construction of all main roads in the new city, including an 8-kilometer extension of Highway 6.5 within the project area. The actual completion rate has reached 49.16%, exceeding the planned schedule by 21.76%. Most deep infrastructure works, such as sewage networks, drainage systems, and stormwater channels, have been completed. Additionally, 11 of the 29 vehicular bridges have been finished, and asphalt works have commenced. Construction is also progressing on 130 electrical substations and the main water reservoirs.
Key Infrastructure Developments
The project’s infrastructure is being developed in phases, with a focus on ensuring that all components are completed to a high standard. The construction of main roads and related infrastructure services is a critical aspect of the project, as it will facilitate the movement of residents and goods within the new city. The extension of Highway 6.5 is particularly significant, as it will improve connectivity and reduce travel times.
Advancements in Residential Suburbs Infrastructure
The South Saad Al-Abdullah Housing Project also includes three contracts for developing infrastructure in residential suburbs encompassing 23,551 housing plots. Work on these contracts is advancing ahead of schedule, indicating a positive trend in the project’s overall progress. The development of infrastructure in residential areas is crucial for supporting the housing needs of Kuwait’s growing population.
Minister’s Emphasis on Quality and Timely Completion
During his inspection, Minister Al-Meshari toured several key project sites, including the city’s main stormwater reservoir. He expressed his appreciation to the engineers and field teams for their dedication and urged them to maintain the accelerated pace of progress while ensuring strict compliance with contractual specifications and quality standards. Al-Meshari emphasized the importance of unifying technical procedures and requirements across similar contracts and consulting firms to prevent delays or duplication of efforts. He affirmed the Ministry and PAHW’s readiness to address any challenges faced by implementation teams in the field, stressing the government’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the South Saad Al-Abdullah City project.
Government’s Commitment to Housing Development
The South Saad Al-Abdullah Housing Project is a key component of Kuwait’s housing development strategy, aimed at addressing the country’s housing needs. The government’s commitment to this project is evident in its efforts to ensure timely completion and maintain high-quality standards. The project’s progress is a testament to the collaborative efforts between the Ministry, PAHW, and the implementation teams.
In conclusion, the South Saad Al-Abdullah Housing Project is making significant progress, with infrastructure contracts advancing ahead of schedule. The government’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the project is clear, and the efforts of the engineers and field teams are crucial to its success. As the project nears completion, it is expected to play a vital role in addressing Kuwait’s housing needs and contributing to the country’s overall development.
