Celebrating Resilience: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Muscat

The event, held at the Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation Center within the Medical City, drew significant attendance from military and security personnel, healthcare professionals, and representatives from supporting organizations. Under the patronage of Brigadier Dr. Nasser bin Salim Al Hinai, Director General of Medical Services for Military and Security Services and Acting Director General of the Medical City for Military and Security Services Hospital – Al Khoudh, the ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the importance of recognizing and empowering individuals with disabilities.

A Message of Appreciation and Inspiration

Brigadier Dr. Al Hinai delivered a moving speech, expressing deep gratitude and respect for the retired military and security personnel with disabilities. He acknowledged their dedicated service and the lasting impact they’ve had on the nation. He emphasized that their journeys are not just stories of overcoming challenges, but also beacons of hope and inspiration for all.

“These individuals have left an indelible mark on our collective memory,” stated Brigadier Dr. Al Hinai. “Their determination and perseverance embody the highest ideals of service and sacrifice. We are proud to support them in their continued pursuit of success and happiness.” The speech underscored the commitment of the Medical City to providing ongoing support and resources to help these veterans thrive.

Expanding Rehabilitation Services: The New Hydrotherapy Unit

Following the opening remarks, attendees were invited to explore an exhibition showcasing a diverse array of rehabilitation activities, cultural displays, and sporting demonstrations. This provided a platform for individuals with disabilities to exhibit their talents and engage with the community. The exhibition highlighted the power of adaptive sports and creative expression in fostering independence and well-being.

A key highlight of the day was the inauguration of the new Hydrotherapy Unit, a vital addition to the Al Amal Center for Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation. Hydrotherapy, the use of water for therapeutic purposes, offers a low-impact environment for individuals to improve their strength, flexibility, and range of motion. This new facility will significantly enhance the center’s ability to provide specialized care and support to veterans recovering from injuries or managing chronic conditions.

The Benefits of Hydrotherapy for Veterans

The Hydrotherapy Unit is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities designed to cater to a wide range of needs. Water’s buoyancy reduces stress on joints, making it an ideal therapy for those with mobility limitations. The warmth of the water can also help to relieve pain and muscle spasms, promoting relaxation and improving overall function. This addition demonstrates the Medical City’s dedication to utilizing innovative healthcare solutions to improve the lives of those it serves.

Recognizing Support and Achievement

The ceremony concluded with a formal recognition of key contributors to the well-being of persons with disabilities. Brigadier Dr. Al Hinai presented awards to participants in the International Day of Persons with Disabilities event and the organizers who dedicated their time and effort to its success.

Furthermore, distinguished personnel from the Medical City for Military and Security Services were honored for their outstanding contributions to patient care and rehabilitation programs. Special recognition was also given to the athletes and support staff who participated in the “Sail Freely” World Sailing Championship, a testament to the power of adaptive sports.

A significant acknowledgment was extended to Oman LNG Company for their generous support of the Al Amal Center for Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation. Their commitment to corporate social responsibility has been instrumental in enabling the center to expand its services and reach more individuals in need. This partnership exemplifies the collaborative spirit required to create a truly inclusive society.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities event at the Medical City for Military and Security Services served as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusivity, accessibility, and unwavering support for veterans and all individuals living with disabilities. The inauguration of the Hydrotherapy Unit represents a significant step forward in providing cutting-edge rehabilitation services, while the recognition of dedicated personnel and supporting organizations underscores the collective effort required to build a more equitable and compassionate world. The Medical City’s ongoing commitment to these principles ensures that those who have served will continue to receive the care and respect they deserve.
