France’s star forward and captain, Kylian Mbappe, suffered a broken nose during the UEFA Euro 2024 match against Austria. The incident occurred when Mbappe’s head collided with the shoulder of Austrian defender Kevin Danso. Despite the violent collision, Mbappe will not require surgery and will instead wear a mask when he returns to action. The French Football Federation confirmed the extent of the injury and stated that Mbappe had undergone tests at a hospital before rejoining the national team at their base in Paderborn.

The extent of Mbappe’s injury raises concerns about his availability for France’s upcoming match against the Netherlands. France coach Didier Deschamps expressed his worry about Mbappe’s condition after the match, emphasizing the significance of having Mbappe in the team. Despite the injury, Deschamps was pleased with the result as France secured a 1-0 victory over Austria, a positive start to their Euro 2024 campaign. Deschamps highlighted the importance of remaining solid as a team, in addition to showcasing their quality and talent on the field.

The incident that led to Mbappe’s injury occurred late in the match, with the striker’s nose visibly bleeding as he left the pitch in the 90th minute. Mbappe received treatment from the France medical team, and the severity of his injury became apparent as he held his nose while sitting on the touchline. The 24-year-old attacker, who recently signed with Real Madrid, was eventually replaced by Olivier Giroud. Despite the injury setback, Deschamps remains hopeful that Mbappe will not be sidelined for an extended period, emphasizing the importance of having him in the team.

The French team is now focused on preparing for their upcoming match against the Netherlands, where Mbappe’s availability remains uncertain. The French Football Federation stated that a mask will be made for Mbappe to enable his return to action after a period of treatment. As the team looks to build on their opening victory, Deschamps emphasized the need to capitalize on opportunities and maintain a solid defensive structure. With Mbappe as a key player in the squad, France aims to secure their first European Championship title since 2000.

Despite the setback of Mbappe’s injury, France’s victory over Austria has bolstered the team’s confidence as they progress through the Euro 2024 tournament. The resilience shown by the team in securing the win against tough opposition demonstrates their determination to succeed on the continental stage. As Mbappe undergoes treatment and recovery, the focus now shifts to the team’s preparation and tactics for their next match. With the support of their coach, Deschamps, and the talent within the squad, France remains optimistic about their chances in the tournament, with the hope of lifting the European Championship trophy once again.
