Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal recently praised India’s growing manufacturing prowess, highlighting Maruti Suzuki’s export of SUVs to Japan as evidence of the success of the “Make In India” campaign. In a social media post, he expressed pride in the export of over 1,600 ‘Made In India’ SUVs to Japan for the first time. Goyal credited the Modi government’s policies for boosting the Indian manufacturing industry and helping establish ‘Brand India’ globally.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited officially launched the export of its ‘Made-in-India’ SUV, the Fronx, to Japan, marking a milestone in India’s manufacturing capabilities. The Fronx, the company’s second vehicle exported to Japan after the Baleno, departed from Pipavav Port in Gujarat for Japan, with plans for its debut in the Japanese market this autumn. The Fronx is exclusively produced in Maruti Suzuki’s advanced factory in Gujarat, showcasing India’s growing manufacturing prowess and global footprint.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, expressed excitement over the export of the ‘Made-in-India’ Fronx to Japan, emphasizing the quality-conscious and advanced automobile market in Japan. Maruti Suzuki has been a key player in India’s passenger vehicle exports, with over 2.8 lakh units exported to more than 100 countries in the fiscal year 2023-24, holding a significant 42% share in the country’s passenger vehicle exports. The company achieved a record-breaking export figure of 70,560 units in Q1 FY 2024-25, marking its highest-ever Q1 export performance.

The export of Maruti Suzuki’s ‘Made-in-India’ Fronx SUV to Japan signifies the success of the ‘Make In India’ initiative in boosting India’s manufacturing capabilities and global recognition. The Modi government’s policies have played a crucial role in promoting the production of world-class quality products domestically, establishing ‘Brand India’ as a reputable name globally. Maruti Suzuki’s export strategy reflects India’s evolving manufacturing industry and expanding global presence in the automobile market, contributing to the country’s economic growth and international reputation.

With Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx becoming the company’s second vehicle to be exported to Japan, following the success of the Baleno, India’s manufacturing prowess is further demonstrated on the global stage. The Fronx, produced in Maruti Suzuki’s cutting-edge factory in Gujarat, highlights the quality and innovation associated with Indian-made vehicles, making a mark in the competitive Japanese market. The export of ‘Made-in-India’ vehicles to Japan reflects a significant achievement in India’s automotive industry and reaffirms the country’s position as a hub for manufacturing excellence in the region.
