Saudi national team head coach, Roberto Mancini, has urged his players to maintain focus following their 2-0 defeat to Japan in the AFC Asian Qualifiers. The loss has put Saudi Arabia in a direct battle with Australia for second place in the group, which guarantees automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Mancini acknowledged the strong competition from Japan and emphasized the need to regroup and focus on the upcoming matches.

Mancini expressed disappointment in the team’s performance, noting a lack of chances created during the match. He also highlighted a decline in fitness levels towards the end of the game, leading to Japan’s victory. Despite past successes against Japan, Mancini stressed the importance of not dwelling on the past and adapting to the current circumstances. He emphasized the goal of qualifying for the World Cup, regardless of rankings.

Japan took an early lead through Daichi Kamada’s goal in the 14th minute, with Koki Ogawa securing the win with a header in the 81st minute. This victory marked Japan’s third consecutive win in the qualifiers, extending their lead at the top of the standings. Mancini praised Japan for sticking to their game plan and executing it effectively, highlighting the need for Saudi Arabia to learn from the defeat and improve in their upcoming matches.

Looking ahead, Saudi Arabia will face Bahrain in Jeddah, while Japan will take on Australia in Saitama. The upcoming matches will be crucial for both teams, as they aim to secure their spot in the World Cup. Mancini emphasized the need for his players to focus on the present and adapt to the challenges they face. With the competition heating up in Group C, every match becomes vital in the race for qualification.

Overall, Mancini’s message to his players is clear – stay focused, learn from mistakes, and give their best in the remaining qualifiers. The battle for second place in the group intensifies as Saudi Arabia aims to bounce back from the defeat against Japan. With the World Cup qualification on the line, every match is crucial, and the team must be prepared to face the challenges that lie ahead. As the journey continues, Mancini’s leadership will be essential in guiding the team to success.
