Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez recently met with members of the ministerial committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit, chaired by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. The committee included key figures from Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Türkiye, and other Arab and Islamic nations. The main focus of the meeting was to discuss the urgent need to support the recognition of a Palestinian state and address ongoing regional challenges. Specifically, the committee emphasized the implementation of a two-state solution, with the establishment of a Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital. They also called for the Israeli occupation army to withdraw from certain areas and restore full control to the Palestinian Authority.

During the meeting, the committee members highlighted the importance of halting Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the escalating violence in the West Bank. They called for an immediate ceasefire and the provision of adequate humanitarian aid to those affected by the conflict. Additionally, the committee stressed the need to halt the expansion of Israeli settlements and activate international accountability mechanisms for violations of international and humanitarian law. The ultimate goal is to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, safeguard Palestinian rights, and ensure regional security.

Foreign ministers and representatives from Norway, Slovenia, and Ireland, as well as the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, were also in attendance at the meeting. This demonstrates the international interest and support for finding a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and addressing the broader regional challenges. By bringing together key stakeholders from both Arab-Islamic nations and the international community, the meeting aimed to coordinate efforts and build consensus on key issues related to the Palestinian statehood recognition and regional stability.

The meeting emphasized the urgent need to address Israeli aggression in the region, particularly in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The committee members called for a halt to the violence and a ceasefire to protect innocent civilians and provide necessary humanitarian aid to those affected. They also stressed the importance of complying with international law and holding violators accountable for their actions. By focusing on these key issues, the committee aims to create a more stable and secure environment for all parties involved and pave the way for a just and comprehensive peace agreement.

The committee members also discussed the need to implement the two-state solution, with the establishment of a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital. This framework, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and other international initiatives, is seen as a crucial step towards resolving the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. By reaffirming their commitment to this solution, the committee members hope to gain broader support and cooperation from the international community in their efforts to achieve a lasting peace in the region.

Overall, the meeting between Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and the ministerial committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit highlighted the pressing need to support the recognition of a Palestinian state and address ongoing regional challenges. By bringing together key stakeholders from Arab-Islamic nations and the international community, the committee aims to coordinate efforts, build consensus, and take concrete steps towards achieving a just and comprehensive peace agreement. The international community’s involvement and support in these efforts demonstrate a shared commitment to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and promoting regional stability and security.
