The 82nd Golden Globes was a night to remember, with France’s ‘Emilia Pérez’ and the American epic ‘The Brutalist’ dominating the film categories. Shōgun and Baby Reindeer also won big in the TV awards. Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez took home four wins, including Best Film and Best Motion Picture (Non-English Language). The film, a Mexico-set gangster trans musical, is a must-watch on Netflix. Meanwhile, Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist won Best Film (Drama), Best Director, and Best Actor (Adrian Brody). The ceremony also had some historic wins, such as Fernanda Torres becoming the first Brazilian performer to win Best Actress Drama.

On the TV side, Japan-set historical drama Shōgun swept the board with four wins, including Best TV Series (Drama). The evening saw an expansion of the voting body for the awards, leading to a more diverse set of nominees. Comedian Nikki Glaser made history as the first solo female host. The ceremony introduced a new category for “Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement,” which went to Wicked. Despite the predictable winners in the TV categories, there were surprises such as Hacks winning Best TV Series (Comedy).

The evening had its share of memorable moments, from Ali Wong’s win in the Best Stand Up Comedy category to Sofia Vergara playfully heckling Jodie Foster. However, the ceremony had some shortcomings, such as awkward presenter bits and technical glitches. The winners were fairly predictable, with Baby Reindeer, Shōgun, and The Bear dominating the TV categories. Despite this, the awards season remains unpredictable, with Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist emerging as favorites.

Overall, the 82nd Golden Globes was a night of celebration for the film and TV industry. Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist stole the show with their wins, while Shōgun made history in the TV categories. Despite some missteps in the ceremony, the evening showcased the talent and diversity of the entertainment industry. As the awards season progresses, it will be exciting to see how the winners at the Golden Globes fare at the upcoming Oscars. The night was a mix of predictability and surprises, setting the stage for a thrilling awards season ahead.
