Michelin Guide Dubai recently held its third edition in 2024, with Chef Jason Atherton’s restaurant Row on 45 making a grand debut and winning two Michelin stars. The event was marked by tears of joy, high-fives, and warm embraces as Chef Jason expressed his emotions, stating that it was a dream come true after 36 years in the industry. Dubai saw a total of four restaurants with two Michelin stars and 15 restaurants with one-star recognition.
Chef Jason, who has been in Dubai since the early 2000s, mentioned that the city holds a special place in his heart as it is where he met his wife and started his gourmet restaurant journey. He highlighted the incredible evolution of Dubai over the last twenty years. The list of winners included restaurants like Il Ristorante, STAY by Yannick Alléno, Trèsind Studio, and Row on 45 with two Michelin stars, and several others with one-star recognition.
The Michelin Guide Dubai also recognized various other establishments, including six new restaurants added to the Bib Gourmand list for quality cooking at reasonable prices. Additionally, the Michelin Green Star recognition was retained by Boca, Lowe, and Teible. Awards were given to exceptional individuals such as Apichaya Khomsan, DuangDy by Bo.Lan for the Michelin Service Award, and Michael Mpofu from Celebrities by Mauro Colagero for the Sommelier Award.
Some notable winners from the event included the Orfali Brothers, who moved up from the Bib Gourmand category to the one-star category after a two-year wait. Chef Mohamad Orfali dedicated the win to all Arab chefs. Acclaimed chef Anne-Sophie Pic also received a one-star for her modern French cuisine at La Dame de Pic, adding another star to her already impressive collection of 10 Michelin stars. The event recognized a total of 106 establishments covering 35 different types of cuisine.
