BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a prominent global medical technology company, has reiterated its dedication to patient safety and sepsis management in light of World Sepsis Day on September 13 and World Patient Safety Day on September 17. The company’s commitment is evident in its ongoing efforts to enhance diagnostic accuracy and reduce adverse events in healthcare settings through its Signature ProgrammesTM, which focus on preventing errors and improving patient outcomes on a global scale.

Sepsis is a significant public health concern, affecting 49 million individuals worldwide annually and resulting in 11 million deaths. BD recognizes the importance of addressing this global health challenge through advancements in medication management, infection prevention, and diagnostic accuracy. By focusing on early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, the company aims to reduce the burden of sepsis and other healthcare-associated infections, ultimately improving patient safety and outcomes.

Maher Elhassan, Vice President and General Manager of BD Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey, emphasized the company’s commitment to patient safety as a fundamental aspect of healthcare delivery. BD collaborates with healthcare professionals to deliver safer, more efficient, and sustainable healthcare solutions, with patient safety being a core pillar of its Signature ProgrammesTM. These programs are designed to protect patients and healthcare workers by reducing medication errors, preventing healthcare-associated infections, and enhancing overall healthcare efficiency.

BD’s Signature ProgrammesTM encompass three critical areas: Patient Safety, Healthcare Workers Wellbeing, and Healthcare Efficiency. These programs aim to minimize errors, protect healthcare workers, reduce waste, and improve outcomes, aligning with global health priorities. By focusing on automation, diagnostic accuracy, and connected medication management, BD plays a vital role in minimizing risks and supporting healthcare systems worldwide in creating safer and more reliable environments for patients and providers.

According to the World Health Organization, one in ten patients is harmed during healthcare, with over 50% of harm being preventable. Medication errors account for a significant portion of these preventable harms. BD’s efforts in automation, diagnostic accuracy, and connected medication management are crucial in reducing these risks. Through innovative technologies and comprehensive education and training programs, the company supports healthcare systems in creating safer environments for patients and providers, ultimately contributing to the goal of safer healthcare for all.

On World Sepsis Day and World Patient Safety Day, BD calls on healthcare professionals and organizations worldwide to join in advancing the shared goal of safer healthcare. By emphasizing patient safety, enhancing diagnostic accuracy, and reducing adverse events, BD remains committed to improving patient outcomes and addressing global health challenges related to sepsis and healthcare-associated infections.
