Actress Dame Maggie Smith, known for her roles in the Harry Potter films and Downton Abbey, has passed away at the age of 89. A legendary figure in British stage and screen, she had won two Oscars during her career and received numerous other awards throughout her illustrious career. In a statement from her sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, they confirmed her passing and expressed their gratitude for the support and kindness shown by the staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital during her final days.

Hugh Bonneville, who starred alongside Dame Maggie in Downton Abbey, paid tribute to her remarkable talent and legacy. He described her as a true legend of her generation and praised her sharp wit and formidable talent. Her portrayal of Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films remains one of her most iconic roles, showcasing her versatility and depth as an actress.
