A new state-of-the-art cancer institute has recently opened in Abu Dhabi, known as the Burjeel Cancer Institute (BCI). This institute, located in Mohammed bin Zayed City, offers world-class facilities spread across four floors. The facilities at BCI include private chemotherapy suites, specialty clinics, a dedicated breast cancer unit, and patient-centric accommodations.

Burjeel Holdings has launched this new institute, which integrates various advanced treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, surgical oncology, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). Additionally, BCI provides cutting-edge therapies like targeted therapy, precision medicine, advanced surgical techniques, radiation therapy, as well as AI-driven cancer diagnosis and management.

The inauguration of the Burjeel Cancer Institute was attended by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence. He highlighted the UAE’s commitment to offering top-notch healthcare services to its residents. Sheikh Nahyan emphasized the importance of comprehensive and innovative care for cancer patients, covering not just treatment but also prevention, early detection, and patient education.

BCI serves as the focal point of Burjeel’s cancer care network, which includes facilities in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Al Dhafra, Sharjah, and Dubai. The network caters to more than 5,000 oncology patients annually, conducts more than 10,000 screenings, and performs over 10,000 radiotherapy sessions with the expertise of more than 50 specialists.

The founder and chairman of Burjeel Holdings, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, conveyed his optimism about the transformative impact of the new Burjeel Cancer Institute on cancer treatment and patient outcomes. He emphasized the organization’s commitment to delivering the highest quality care supported by advanced technology and research.

The institute is led by prominent Emirati oncologist Prof Humaid Al Shamsi, who underlined the provision of free consultation to enhance patient experience. The institute is designed to provide better care and improve quality outcomes for patients by integrating advanced diagnostic tools and innovative treatments in a single location.

BCI incorporates advanced diagnostic capabilities through OncoHelix-CoLab to conduct specialized tests locally, utilizing technologies like next-generation sequencing (NGS, droplet digital PCR, and multi-color flow cytometry. It also has the infrastructure to conduct clinical trials and translational research.
The Burjeel Cancer Institute plans to establish a medical education program to enhance oncology education, support research initiatives, and develop residency and fellowship programs in collaboration with local and global institutions. Additionally, the institute will engage with the community through awareness campaigns, educational seminars, and cancer screening programs.

Key personnel from Burjeel Holdings and Burjeel Medical City, as well as cancer survivors and their families, were present during the launch event of the Burjeel Cancer Institute. This significant initiative aims to revolutionize cancer treatment in Abu Dhabi by offering state-of-the-art facilities, top-tier treatments, and a patient-centric approach to care.
