The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has recently launched a 10-year visa program called the ‘Blue Residency,’ aimed at sustainability experts who have shown exceptional contributions to environmental protection, both within and outside the UAE. This initiative was announced by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum during a UAE Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi. The Blue Residency is specifically tailored for individuals actively involved in environmental protection, including those supporting marine, terrestrial, and air quality sustainability, as well as those working with modern sustainability technologies and the circular economy.

Eligible candidates for the Blue Residency include supporters of environmental action from various sectors such as international organizations, companies, associations, non-governmental organizations, award winners, and distinguished activists and researchers in environmental work. Applications for this residency can be submitted directly or through nominations by competent authorities within the UAE to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. This new program follows the UAE’s Golden Visa and Green Visa programs, which target foreign investors, entrepreneurs, skilled employees, and other key contributors to the nation’s economy and societal development.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasized the significance of the Blue Residency in recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to environmental protection. This long-term residency, valid for 10 years, aims to acknowledge efforts in various areas such as marine, terrestrial, air quality, modern sustainability technologies, and the circular economy. The approval of the Blue Residency aligns with the UAE’s Year of Sustainability and acknowledges the efforts of individuals enriching climate and environmental work in the country, as stated by the UAE’s Minister of Climate Change and Environment.

The Blue Residency not only showcases the UAE’s commitment to environmental sustainability but also aims to attract global talent, promoting a collaborative approach to global environmental challenges. This initiative highlights the UAE’s proactive stance on environmental protection and sustainability, recognizing and rewarding individuals who contribute significantly towards these goals. By offering a long-term residency to sustainability experts, the UAE is positioning itself as a leader in environmental initiatives and a hub for global environmental talent, fostering innovation and collaboration in addressing pressing environmental issues.

In conclusion, the launch of the Blue Residency reflects the UAE’s dedication to environmental protection and sustainability, as well as its commitment to attracting global talent in this crucial field. Through this program, the UAE aims to recognize and reward individuals who have shown exceptional contributions to environmental action, highlighting the importance of sustainability in the country’s future development. As the UAE continues to lead by example in environmental initiatives, the Blue Residency serves as a platform for promoting collaboration and innovation in addressing environmental challenges on a global scale.
