The Directorate of Policies and Curricular Development, in partnership with the Regional English Language Officer (RELO) of the U.S. Embassy in Bahrain, has initiated a three-week training program at the Isa Cultural Centre (ICC) to enhance English language teaching skills for 150 secondary school teachers and students in preparation for the TOEFL and IELTS international exams. The training will focus on each academic level from 1st to 3rd secondary, with the goal of improving teacher competence and providing specialized training for students to excel in these exams, which are often required for admission to higher education institutions.

Sahar Abdulmoneim Al Majthoub, the Director of Curriculum Development and Policies Directorate at the Ministry of Education, highlighted the importance of this program in enhancing teacher competency and preparing students for success in the TOEFL and IELTS exams. This initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to ensure that students are well-prepared for these international tests, which are essential for gaining admission to many universities and colleges. The program will cover various topics, including the structure and question types of the exams, effective preparation techniques for students, methods of evaluation and scoring, and integrating test preparation into lesson planning.

In addition to theoretical knowledge, the training program will also include workshops and practical sessions to help teachers improve their skills in designing and implementing educational activities that can enhance students’ English language abilities. By providing teachers with the tools and techniques needed to effectively prepare students for the TOEFL and IELTS exams, the program aims to improve overall English language proficiency among secondary school students in Bahrain. The practical sessions will focus on developing strategies for designing engaging and effective educational activities that can help students improve their English language skills in a meaningful and impactful way.

By equipping teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively prepare students for the TOEFL and IELTS exams, the Ministry of Education aims to improve the overall quality of English language education in Bahrain. This program is a testament to the Ministry’s commitment to providing teachers and students with the support and resources they need to succeed in their academic pursuits. The training program will not only enhance teacher competency but also provide students with a solid foundation in English language proficiency, which is essential for their success in higher education and beyond.

The collaborative effort between the Directorate of Policies and Curricular Development and the U.S. Embassy in Bahrain showcases the importance of international partnerships in improving English language education. By working together with international experts, Bahrain is able to access the latest teaching techniques and methodologies that can benefit both teachers and students. This program serves as a model for future collaborations and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of education in Bahrain and preparing students for success in an increasingly globalized world.

In conclusion, the three-week training program for secondary school teachers and students in Bahrain, aimed at preparing them for the TOEFL and IELTS exams, represents a significant step forward in improving English language education in the country. By focusing on enhancing teacher competency, providing specialized training for students, and integrating test preparation into lesson planning, this initiative will play a crucial role in equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in higher education and beyond. Through international partnerships and collaborative efforts, Bahrain is paving the way for a brighter future for its students and ensuring that they are well-prepared for the challenges of an increasingly interconnected world.
