Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has taken the gamble of including key players Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay in the final 26-man squad for the European Championship. Both players have been dealing with injuries, but with the tournament now allowing for larger squad sizes, Koeman believes it is worth the risk to have them on the team as they aim to win their first continental title since 1988. Frenkie de Jong is expected to be fit for the team’s first match against Poland on June 16, according to Koeman.

Despite the inclusion of de Jong and Depay, there are some notable absences from the squad. Left-back Ian Maatsen, who plays for Borussia Dortmund, will not be part of the team despite expectations that he would be selected. Koeman explained that the decision was made in consideration of Maatsen playing in the Champions League final on Saturday, where he will feature against Real Madrid. While Maatsen is understandably disappointed, Koeman believes it was the best choice for the team.

The Netherlands squad also includes other notable players such as Virgil van Dijk, Matthijs de Ligt, and Georginio Wijnaldum, who will play a crucial role in the team’s performance at the tournament. The team comprises a mix of experienced players and promising talents, highlighting the depth and talent available to Koeman as he aims to lead the team to success in the competition. With a strong pool of players to choose from, the Netherlands will be looking to make a mark on the European stage.

The inclusion of de Jong and Depay in the squad adds a layer of excitement and anticipation for fans of the Dutch national team. Both players have been key figures in the team’s recent performances and will be crucial to the team’s success in the tournament. Their presence in the squad provides a significant boost to the team’s chances of performing well and competing against some of Europe’s best teams. The dynamic play of de Jong and the goal-scoring ability of Depay will be vital for the Netherlands.

The Netherlands squad for the European Championship features a strong mix of young talents and experienced players, reflecting the country’s rich footballing tradition. With the likes of Virgil van Dijk marshaling the defense and Memphis Depay leading the attack, the team has a good balance of skills and abilities across all areas of the pitch. The inclusion of promising talents like Ryan Gravenberch and Xavi Simons also showcases the commitment to developing young players within the national team setup.

As the team prepares for the European Championship, all eyes will be on the Netherlands to see if they can replicate the success of their past glory. With a talented squad at his disposal, coach Ronald Koeman will be hoping to guide the team to a strong showing in the tournament and potentially end their long wait for a continental title. The inclusion of de Jong and Depay, despite their recent injury concerns, demonstrates the team’s determination to field the strongest possible lineup and compete at the highest level of European football.
