The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently announced the appointment of Mohammad Rizwan as the new white-ball skipper, replacing Babar Azam for the upcoming tours of Australia and Zimbabwe. This decision comes after Babar Azam stepped down from the position earlier this month. Rizwan, who has been in impressive form recently, was chosen to lead the team in the white-ball format. The announcement was made at a press conference in Lahore, where Rizwan and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi addressed the media on October 27.

However, the news of Rizwan’s appointment was overshadowed by the resignation of Pakistan’s white-ball head coach, Gary Kirsten, just a week before the team’s tour of Australia. Kirsten, a former South Africa Test player and renowned coach, had only been in the role for six months before deciding to step down. The PCB announced that Test coach Jason Gillespie would take over coaching duties for the upcoming tour, but did not provide a reason for Kirsten’s sudden departure. Reports suggest that both coaches were unhappy with the PCB’s decision to exclude them from the squad selection process.

The instability within the Pakistan cricket setup has been a cause for concern for analysts and fans alike. In the past two years, the team has seen multiple changes in coaches, board heads, captains, and domestic competition formats, which have impacted the team’s performance on the field. Despite this, Pakistan managed to secure a 2-1 Test series win over England last week, marking their first home series win since February 2021. The team will now look to carry this momentum into the white-ball series against Australia and Zimbabwe.

The upcoming tour of Australia will consist of three one-day internationals in Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth, followed by three Twenty20 matches. With Rizwan at the helm, Pakistan will be hoping to put up a strong showing against one of the top cricketing nations in the world. Rizwan, who has been a consistent performer with both the bat and the gloves, will be looking to lead by example and guide the team to success in the limited-overs format. The tour will be a crucial test for both Rizwan and the team as they look to establish themselves as a dominant force in white-ball cricket.

Kirsten’s resignation has added to the uncertainty surrounding the Pakistan team, but the players and coaching staff will need to quickly regroup and focus on the challenges ahead. With a new captain in Rizwan and Gillespie at the helm, Pakistan will need to work together to overcome the obstacles and put forward a strong performance in Australia. The team will be looking to make a mark on the international cricket scene and showcase their talent and potential against tough opposition. As the tour approaches, all eyes will be on Rizwan and the team as they look to make a statement on the field and bring success to Pakistan cricket.
