King Saud University in Riyadh has achieved a significant milestone by being ranked 90th in the Shanghai Ranking of Universities for 2024. This prestigious global ranking is based on various criteria such as research and educational outputs, as well as the efficiency of faculty members. The accomplishment surpasses the goals set forth by the Human Capacity Development Program Index in Saudi Vision 2030. Minister of Education, Yousef Al-Bunyan, attributed this success to the strategic vision of the Saudi leadership in the areas of education, research, development, and innovation. He emphasized the continuous support provided for initiatives that serve the objectives of the educational system, aligning with the aspirations of Prince Mohammed bin Salman for King Saud University to be among the top 10 universities in the world.

The primary objective of King Saud University, as stated in its foundational system, is to enhance the classification of higher education services in Riyadh and across the Kingdom in international university rankings. This recent accomplishment is a step towards achieving this goal and solidifying the university’s position on the global academic landscape. Additionally, eleven other Saudi universities have also made significant strides by securing positions among the top 1000 universities worldwide. King Abdulaziz University, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Princess Noura bint Abdulrahman University, and several others have achieved notable rankings, showcasing the strength of the Kingdom’s university education system.

The strategic progress made by Saudi universities aligns with the objectives outlined in Vision 2030 and the Human Capacity Development Program. These initiatives aim to enhance the education and research ecosystem in the Kingdom, with the goal of positioning Saudi universities as leaders in the global academic sphere. Minister Al-Bunyan highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the Council and various stakeholders within the university education system, supported by the leadership, to ensure that universities in Saudi Arabia attain the highest standards of excellence and leadership in research and education. This concerted effort reflects the commitment of the Kingdom to advancing its educational institutions and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

The rankings achieved by King Saud University and other Saudi universities serve as a testament to the commitment of the Saudi leadership to promoting education, research, and development within the Kingdom. By prioritizing these areas, Saudi Arabia aims to enhance the quality of its higher education services and elevate its position in the global academic arena. The strides made by these universities underscore the progress being made towards realizing the goals set forth in Vision 2030 and the Human Capacity Development Program. With the continuous support and collaboration of various stakeholders, Saudi universities are poised to further elevate their standing and make significant contributions to the international academic community.

As Saudi universities continue to excel and make their mark on the global stage, the Kingdom’s commitment to education and research remains unwavering. By investing in its educational institutions and nurturing a culture of innovation and excellence, Saudi Arabia is poised to play a leading role in shaping the future of academia. The achievements of King Saud University and other institutions highlight the strides being made towards realizing the objectives of Vision 2030 and the Human Capacity Development Program.
