In June 2024, Khalifa Bin Salman Port in Bahrain processed 37,387 containers carrying a total of 18,145 tonnes of goods, marking a 3.8% increase from the previous month. The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication’s Ports and Maritime Affairs department reported that 3,145 vehicles arrived at the port, and 58 ships docked during the month. Additionally, the ministry issued 18 commercial licences, 16 inspection licences, and 202 ship departure licences, indicating a smooth flow of operations. The port also handled 992,047,407 tonnes of solid goods and 2,230,013,818 tonnes of liquid goods in cargo handling.

One significant development highlighted by the ministry is the implementation of an automated system for ship registration and licence renewal. This system allows maritime operators to pay fees digitally, streamlining the process and increasing efficiency. The Ports and Maritime Affairs department oversees maritime operations in Bahrain’s ports, providing necessary support to both public and private operators. The department is also responsible for supervising maritime activities in the country’s territorial waters, ensuring the safety of ship movements. They manage ship registrations under the Bahraini flag and issue the required certificates.

The efficient handling of containers and goods at Khalifa Bin Salman Port reflects Bahrain’s commitment to developing its maritime infrastructure and enhancing trade activities. The increase in container traffic and the implementation of digital systems for registration and payment demonstrate the country’s efforts to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency. With a focus on providing support to both public and private port operators, the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication aims to facilitate smooth maritime operations and ensure the safety of ship movements in Bahrain’s ports.

The issuance of commercial licences, inspection licences, and ship departure licences by the ministry indicates a well-coordinated approach to managing maritime activities at Khalifa Bin Salman Port. By providing the necessary assistance and support to maritime operators, the Ports and Maritime Affairs department plays a crucial role in promoting trade and commerce through the port. The efficient handling of solid and liquid goods further underscores the port’s significance as a key hub for cargo transportation in the region.

Overall, the positive trends in container traffic, vehicle arrivals, and ship docking at Khalifa Bin Salman Port reflect Bahrain’s growing prominence as a maritime destination. With ongoing efforts to enhance operational processes and digital systems, the port is poised to further strengthen its position as a strategic gateway for trade and commerce. The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication’s commitment to supporting maritime activities and ensuring the safety of ship movements underscores Bahrain’s dedication to facilitating smooth and efficient port operations.
