Katara, the Cultural Village Foundation in Doha, Qatar, recently opened an exhibition titled “Recycling to Create a Sustainable Culture” in honor of World Environment Day. The event, held in Building 18 at Katara, showcased pieces that blend engineering and environmental aspects to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the environment. The exhibition focused on recycling materials used in construction to create decorative items for homes and gardens. This initiative is part of Katara’s efforts to promote sustainability and eco-conscious practices.

The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Qatar Society of Engineers as part of a series of activities planned for World Environment Day. In addition to the exhibition, Katara also hosted artistic workshops for children in Building 19. These workshops included a recycling workshop where children could create art on cardboard and a workshop on making plant pots from plastic containers. The goal of these workshops was to educate children about the importance of recycling and sustainable living.

As part of the exhibition, an intellectual symposium was held in Building 15 to discuss the role of culture and heritage in promoting environmental awareness. The symposium featured the participation of esteemed individuals such as Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, Dr. Saif Al Hajri, and researcher Dhabya Abdullah Al Sulaiti. The discussions focused on how cultural and heritage sites can be used as platforms to spread awareness about environmental issues and sustainability practices.

One of the highlights of the exhibition was the launch of a book by Abu Bakr Al Hassan that delves into Qatar’s environment. The book, which explores various aspects of Qatar’s natural surroundings and the efforts being made to protect them, was well-received by attendees at the “Recycling to Create a Sustainable Culture” exhibition. This book adds to the body of literature aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting sustainable practices in Qatar.

The exhibition served as a platform for local artists and environmentalists to showcase their work and initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability. By highlighting the importance of recycling and environmental preservation, the exhibition encouraged attendees to rethink their consumption habits and adopt more eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. The event aimed to inspire a cultural shift towards sustainable living and a greater appreciation for the environment among the community.

Overall, the “Recycling to Create a Sustainable Culture” exhibition at Katara was a significant initiative that highlighted the intersection of art, engineering, and environmental conservation. By bringing together artists, engineers, researchers, and the community, the exhibition successfully raised awareness about the importance of recycling and sustainability. Through workshops, symposiums, and the launch of a book on Qatar’s environment, the event served as a catalyst for promoting environmental awareness and fostering a culture of sustainability in Qatar.
