Doha, Qatar – Jordan faces a significant challenge in the FIFA Arab Cup semi-final tonight against Saudi Arabia at Al Bayt Stadium, despite a dominant run through the tournament so far. The match pits the tournament’s highest-scoring team against a strong Saudi side, but Jordan will be without key players due to injury. This Arab Cup clash is expected to be a tightly contested affair as both nations vie for a place in the final.

Jordan has impressed throughout the competition, topping their group with victories over the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Egypt, followed by a quarter-final win against Iraq. They’ve scored nine goals in four matches, showcasing a potent attack. However, their momentum is threatened by the absence of crucial players as they prepare for this pivotal semi-final match.

Jordan Battles Saudi Arabia Amidst Injury Concerns in the Arab Cup

A major setback for Jordan is the injury to forward Yazan Al-Naimat, described as serious. This is compounded by the unavailability of midfielder Musa Al-Taamari, marking the first time Jordan will take the field without both of these key contributors. Coach Jamal Sellami acknowledged the difficulty, stating his team is facing a Saudi Arabia squad with no such absences.

Sellami highlighted Saudi Arabia’s strength, noting the presence of “Asia’s best players” and the return to form of Mohamed Kanno. Despite these challenges, he emphasized his team’s resilience and determination to compete. He also expressed gratitude for the strong support from Jordanian fans throughout the tournament.

Jordan midfielder Rajaei Ayed revealed that Al-Naimat’s injury has served as a rallying point for the team. According to Ayed, the squad is motivated to win the title in Al-Naimat’s honor, viewing it as a way to compensate for his sacrifice.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has also demonstrated strong form, securing their semi-final berth with a 2-1 extra-time victory over Palestine. Salem Al-Dawsari has been a standout performer for the Green Falcons, contributing to their attacking prowess. Their overall performance suggests they are a serious contender for the Arab Cup title.

Saudi Arabia Confident Heading into Semi-Final

Saudi Arabia’s coach, Herve Renard, expressed confidence in his team’s ability to reach the final. He acknowledged the difficulty of the remaining matches, emphasizing the need for maximum effort from all players. Renard also underscored the importance of pleasing their fans, who have traveled to Qatar in large numbers to offer their support.

Right-back Nawaf Boushal echoed Renard’s sentiments, stating the team is fully prepared and focused on winning. He acknowledged the challenges inherent in a knockout match but affirmed their commitment to fighting until the very end. The team’s preparation has been thorough, aiming to cover all aspects of the game.

The semi-final between Jordan and Saudi Arabia is scheduled to kick off at 8:30 PM local time, following the earlier match between the UAE and Morocco at Khalifa International Stadium. The final, set for December 18th – Qatar National Day – will be held at the prestigious Lusail Stadium. This tournament is seen as important preparation for the Qatar World Cup in 2022.

The outcome of this match will determine which team advances to compete for the Arab Cup championship. While Jordan faces adversity with key injuries, their strong team spirit and previous performances suggest they will not be easily defeated. The match is expected to be a tactical battle, with both coaches likely to emphasize defensive solidity alongside attacking intent. The availability of key players and the ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities will be crucial factors in determining the winner.
