The Ministry of Social Development and Family in Doha recently organized a training course on the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs). This course covered various topics, including reproductive health for PWDs and preparing a crisis plan for them during epidemics and conflicts. The aim was to ensure that the necessary protection and support are provided to this category during emergencies. The training was held in collaboration with the United Nations Center for Training and Documentation in the Field of Human Rights for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, as well as the Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The training program focused on enhancing the capabilities of participants in integrating reproductive health for PWDs into relevant strategies, policies, and programs. It emphasized the importance of continuous education and training for healthcare workers on disability, providing information on how to coordinate care and provide facilities to address the reproductive health needs of PWDs. The program also stressed the completion of medical forms for disability cases. According to Maha Hamad Al Attiyah, Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Social Development and Family, the training was important in addressing crucial issues and enhancing participants’ experience in dealing with such matters.
Jahda Abu Khalil, Director General of the Arab Organization for Persons with Disabilities, highlighted the importance of the training course in addressing crucial issues, especially those related to reproductive health services for PWDs. The training covered ways to develop these services to ensure the rights of PWDs are upheld. Nawaf Kabbara, Chairman of the International Disability Alliance and Chairman of the Arab Organization for Persons with Disabilities, emphasized the significance of the training in addressing the conditions of PWDs during epidemics and conflicts. It also focused on the role of government institutions, civil society, and NGOs in protecting PWDs effectively.
The participants in the training course gained important knowledge and skills that will help them in dealing with critical issues related to the rights of PWDs. The experience acquired during the training will contribute to their ability to address the reproductive health needs of PWDs effectively. The training program aimed to equip healthcare workers with the necessary tools to provide the best possible care and support for PWDs in times of emergencies.
