Italian actress Franca Bettoia dies at the age of 88

Veteran actress Franca Bettoia passed away in Rome at the age of 88, as confirmed by her family to the Italian news agency Adnkronos. The talented actress was married to Italian actor Ugo Tognazzi and starred in several notable films throughout her career. In one of her most memorable roles, Bettoia portrayed Ruth in the classic sci-fi film The Last Man on Earth alongside Vincent Price.

Franca Bettoia was born in Rome on May 14, 1936, and made her film debut in 1955. She gained recognition for her role as “the other woman” in Pietro Germi’s Man of Straw, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Throughout her career, she worked with prominent actors such as Alan Ladd and in films directed by renowned filmmakers like Terence Young and Alfredo Giannetti.

One of Bettoia’s most significant films was Teste rasate in 1993, where she played the mother of her real son, Gianmarco Tognazzi. She also worked with her daughter, Maria Sole Tognazzi, who is a director. Bettoia’s legacy in the film industry continues through her diverse body of work and memorable performances that have left a lasting impact on audiences around the world.
