France is gearing up for a snap parliamentary election, with the far-right National Rally and its allies currently leading in the projections. President Emmanuel Macron called for the election following a disappointing performance by his camp in the European elections. The first round of voting will take place on Sunday, with the second round scheduled for July 7th. The outcome of this election is highly anticipated, as it could have significant implications for the country and the rest of Europe.

According to recent polls, the National Rally and its allies are leading in voting intentions, with the New Popular Front following closely behind. Macron’s presidential camp, Ensemble, is lagging behind in third place. The National Rally is expected to secure between 250 and 280 seats at the National Assembly, just shy of the absolute majority of 289 seats required to form a government. The leader of the winning party in the legislative elections typically becomes the head of the government, subject to approval by the National Assembly.

In addition to the main contenders, the decision by LR Ciotti to align with the National Rally has caused a significant shift in the political landscape. This move has put the traditional center-right Republicans at risk of being excluded from the second round of the elections. LR Ciotti’s decision could impact the final result, as their voters, along with those of other smaller parties, may play a crucial role in determining the outcome. It remains to be seen how this alliance will affect the overall balance of power in the French Parliament.

The Euronews Super Poll, which averages the main forecasts, predicts the National Rally and LR Ciotti to win 33.6% of the vote, with the New Popular Front at 27.9% and Macron’s Together at 19%. Only parties that reach a threshold of 12.5% of the votes can advance to the second round of voting. The key players in this election will need to secure a solid support base in order to progress to the next phase and ultimately have a shot at forming the next government.

As the election draws near, the focus is on building coalitions and securing vital support from potential partners. While the National Rally and its allies hold the lead in the projections, they will need to garner additional backing from other parties to reach the crucial threshold for forming a government. With the fate of the French Parliament hanging in the balance, every vote counts, and alliances could prove to be decisive in shaping the future direction of the country.

Overall, the upcoming parliamentary election in France is poised to be a closely contested and pivotal moment in the country’s political landscape. The outcome of this election will not only determine the composition of the French Parliament but could also have broader implications for the future of Europe. As voters head to the polls, the race for power intensifies, with the National Rally, the New Popular Front, and Macron’s Together camp vying for supremacy. The coming weeks will be critical in shaping the political trajectory of France and setting the stage for the next phase of governance in the country.
