The Indian Ladies Association (ILA) recently celebrated the 78th Independence Day of India at a function held at Tandoori Tantra, a popular restaurant owned by ILA member Pallavi Khanna. The event kicked off with a warm welcome extended to new members by the ILA Executive Committee 2024. ILA President Kiran Mangle delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the significance of Independence Day for the Indian diaspora in Bahrain. Vice President Dr. Tejender Kaur Sarna followed with a powerful demonstration symbolizing the 200 years of bondage India endured, sparking deep reflections on the sacrifices that led to India’s freedom.

The event also featured Treasurer Sheetal Shah’s motivating speech, and Secretary for Membership Hilda Lobo’s announcement of the upcoming ILA Dandiya event, which quickly became the evening’s highlight. ILA Public Relations Secretary Zamini Charak added a patriotic touch to the celebration with a heartfelt song that captivated the crowd. Distinguished media guests, including Rajji Unnikrishnan, Meera Ravi, RJ Juhi, and RJ Satya, shared inspiring stories of patriotism, further adding to the festive atmosphere of the evening.

The celebration continued with a lively patriotic game organized by Dr. Tejender Kaur Sarna, inspired by ILA member Anupam Kinger, focused on India’s rich history. The presence of Megha Jain and Monika Singh, spouses of Indian Embassy officials, further enhanced the ‘home away from home’ feeling created by the event. Monthly birthday celebrations added a personal touch to the afternoon, fostering a sense of community among attendees.

Overall, the Independence Day celebration was a resounding success, filled with joy, camaraderie, and a deep sense of patriotism. Attendees left the event feeling uplifted, proud, and connected to their heritage, marking another significant triumph for the ILA. With engaging speeches, captivating performances, and a sense of community spirit, the ILA’s Independence Day celebration was a memorable and meaningful event for all who attended.
