Indian Embassy commemorates Gandhi Jayanti to promote peace

The Embassy of India in Bahrain recently held a ceremony to commemorate the 155th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and International Day of Nonviolence. The event was attended by Members of the Council of Representatives, government officials from Bahrain, and members of the Indian and Bahraini community. Ambassador H.E. Vinod K. Jacob and other officials from the embassy paid their respects to the Father of the Nation by offering flowers. Ambassador Jacob delivered a welcome address in Arabic and English, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

During the event, Members of Parliament shared their thoughts on the legacy of Gandhian philosophy and its impact globally. They also discussed Gandhi’s role in the Arab World. The International Day of Non-Violence is celebrated on October 2nd each year, in accordance with a General Assembly resolution from 2007. The resolution aims to promote the message of non-violence and cultural values of peace, tolerance, understanding, and non-violence. An exhibition of paintings depicting Mahatma Gandhi’s life was also featured at the event.

Additionally, the embassy held a campaign called “Swatchtha hi Seva” which focuses on cleanliness. The campaign, which began on September 14th, 2024, aims to promote cleanliness and hygiene in the community. Mahatma Gandhi, also known as the Father of the Nation in India, was a prominent leader in the Indian independence movement and a strong advocate for nonviolent resistance. His teachings and philosophy continue to inspire people worldwide to promote peace and nonviolence in society.

The event in Bahrain was a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s life and teachings, commemorating his birth anniversary and promoting the message of non-violence. The exhibition of paintings showcased different aspects of Gandhi’s life, allowing attendees to gain a deeper understanding of his principles and beliefs. The presence of government officials and members of the community highlighted the importance of Gandhi’s legacy in promoting peace and harmony in society.

Overall, the ceremony held by the Embassy of India in Bahrain was a meaningful tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and his contributions to the principles of nonviolence. The event served as a platform to educate the community about the importance of nonviolent resistance and promoting a culture of peace and tolerance. Through exhibitions, discussions, and campaigns like “Swatchtha hi Seva,” the embassy aims to carry forward Gandhi’s message and inspire individuals to follow his path of non-violence and unity.
