Oman’s Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, Qais Mohammed Al Yousef, has extended an invitation to Indian business houses to come and invest in the Sultanate. He emphasized that Oman offers a plethora of opportunities for foreign investors in various sectors such as mining, engineering, and heavy industry. This invitation was made at an event organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (Ficci) in Mumbai, where a high-powered delegation from Oman, led by the Minister of Commerce, was present. Also in attendance were Pankaj Khimji, advisor for foreign trade and international cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, along with senior officials from the ministry of culture and Oman’s ambassador to India.

The historic relationship between Oman and India was highlighted during the event, with the Minister acknowledging the importance of India to Oman. He mentioned that India was the first non-Arab country visited by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik after assuming power. This gesture signifies the deep-rooted ties between the two countries. Pankaj Khimji further discussed the long-standing trade relations between Oman and India, dating back over 5,000 years. He pointed out that artefacts showcasing sea trade between Qalhat and Dwarka exist, and the national Museum of Oman displays numerous artifacts illustrating the close and historic bonds between the two nations.

During a meeting between His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cricket emerged as a topic of conversation. The Indian Prime Minister even presented His Majesty with a cricket bat bearing the signatures of Indian players. This friendly exchange highlights the cultural connections between Oman and India. The Minister emphasized that rather than merely inviting investors to Oman, they are actively reaching out to potential investors with open arms. This proactive approach demonstrates Oman’s commitment to enhancing economic cooperation with India and attracting foreign investments.

The Sultanate of Oman’s strategic location across the Arabian Sea makes it an attractive destination for businesses seeking to expand their operations. With a focus on sectors such as mining, engineering, and heavy industry, Oman offers ample opportunities for growth and development. The presence of high-ranking officials from Oman at the event in Mumbai underscores the importance of strengthening bilateral ties between Oman and India. The Minister’s invitation to Indian businesses serves as a catalyst for increased collaboration and investment in key areas that can benefit both countries.

India and Oman share a rich history of trade and cultural exchange that has spanned millennia. The visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to India shortly after his ascension to the throne underscores the significance of the bilateral relationship. By engaging in discussions on topics like cricket, leaders from both countries are able to foster a sense of camaraderie and mutual understanding. The exchange of gifts, such as the cricket bat presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, showcases the personal rapport between the leaders and further solidifies the bonds of friendship between Oman and India.

As Oman continues to promote itself as an attractive destination for foreign investment, Indian businesses have the opportunity to explore the various avenues available for collaboration. With a rich history of trade relations and cultural ties, India and Oman are well positioned to deepen their economic partnership. By leveraging each other’s strengths and resources, both countries can achieve mutual prosperity and contribute to the development of the region. The Minister’s outreach to Indian business houses signals a new chapter in the economic relationship between Oman and India, one that holds promising opportunities for growth and cooperation.
