Indian Union Minister for Power Manohar Lal, along with Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister Shripad Naik, recently met with a US delegation to discuss energy collaboration between the two countries. The meeting focused on the long-standing bilateral partnership between India and the United States, with a shared commitment to a ‘clean’ energy future that promotes economic growth and development. The Ministry of Power emphasized its dedication to strengthening this partnership and highlighted the importance of collaboration to achieve energy transition goals.

The US delegation, led by H.E. John Podesta, acknowledged India as a valuable partner and expressed support for building resilient supply chains and investment-led partnership strategies. Podesta suggested that India and the US could collaborate on clean energy, energy storage systems, and energy efficiency, with the US providing support to enhance India’s manufacturing capacity. The meeting also explored potential technical exchanges on upgrading grid transmission to handle future load growth, policy consultations, and financial support to advance modernization efforts.

Discussions during the meeting also touched on enhancing India’s manufacturing capacity, specifically in the field of high-efficiency air conditioning systems and fans. Both sides explored state-to-state partnerships for long-duration energy storage studies and collaboration on grid-scale battery storage solutions. The importance of stimulating manufacturing projects and policies to increase India’s capacity to build, deploy, and export energy-efficient products was emphasized.

The meeting highlighted the strategic clean energy partnership between India and the US, specifically under the ‘Power & Energy Efficiency Pillar’ led by the Ministry of Power. The focus was on leveraging this partnership to achieve mutual energy goals and work towards a sustainable energy future. The discussions underscored the need for technical exchanges, policy consultations, and financial support to advance modernization efforts in the energy sector.

Overall, the meeting between the Indian Union Minister for Power and the US delegation showcased the strong commitment of both countries to collaborate on clean energy initiatives, energy efficiency, and enhancing manufacturing capacity. The discussions emphasized the importance of partnership in achieving energy transition goals and building resilient supply chains. The potential for state-to-state partnerships on energy storage studies and grid-scale battery solutions was also explored, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing renewable energy technologies.
