The Oman Flour Mills Company has recently announced the purchase of 10,000 tonnes of wheat crop from Omani farmers, marking a significant increase of up to 100 percent compared to the previous year. This move is part of the company’s efforts to bolster the food security system and incentivize farmers to cultivate wheat. The company has already received the first shipment of Omani wheat crop and is actively working to procure locally grown wheat from farmers to supply both the local and regional markets.

Haitham bin Mohammed al-Fannah, the CEO of the Oman Flour Mills Company, emphasized that the company has been supporting farmers on an annual basis through its purchase programme, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources. The goal is to promote the expansion of wheat cultivation in Oman and enhance the development of Omani wheat products. This year, the number of farmers supplying Omani wheat is expected to exceed 95, compared to just 65 farmers in the previous year, representing a 45 percent increase.

The Oman Flour Mills Company is committed to encouraging the production and promotion of Omani wheat as a local product in both domestic and regional markets. The decision to purchase a larger quantity of wheat this year reflects the growing acceptance and demand for Omani wheat among consumers, thanks to its high quality standards. By increasing the cultivation of wheat, the company aims to contribute to the food security strategy in the Sultanate of Oman and support local farmers in expanding their agricultural activities.

The CEO highlighted the strategic importance of wheat as a crop and its role in achieving food security objectives in Oman. He emphasized that the company’s initiative to purchase local wheat crop aligns with its broader strategy to strengthen the food security system and encourage farmers to invest in wheat cultivation. By expanding the production of Omani wheat and promoting it as a premium local product, the Oman Flour Mills Company aims to create a sustainable and secure supply chain that benefits both farmers and consumers in the region.

Overall, the purchase of 10,000 tonnes of Omani wheat by the Oman Flour Mills Company signifies a significant investment in the local agricultural sector and a commitment to supporting the country’s food security goals. The company’s proactive approach to sourcing locally grown wheat from farmers not only benefits the agricultural community but also ensures a stable supply of high-quality wheat products for the market. Through collaboration with government agencies and farmers, the company is paving the way for a thriving wheat industry in Oman that contributes to the country’s overall economic development and food self-sufficiency.
