Low-intensity steady-state (LISS) exercise is becoming increasingly popular in Qatar, especially as the summer heat continues to rise. Qatar Foundation is taking proactive measures to help members of the community stay fit and healthy by providing opportunities for LISS activities such as cooled walking trails, bike paths, and indoor swimming pools. Charbel Abi Khalil, Associate Professor of Medicine & Genetic Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, emphasizes the importance of low-intensity exercise in maintaining cardiovascular health and overall well-being. Regular engagement in LISS activities can have numerous benefits, including lowering blood pressure, improving circulation, enhancing heart function, managing cholesterol levels, supporting weight management, reducing stress, and improving mental health.

Oxygen Park, located within Education City, offers a comfortable and scenic environment for LISS exercises such as walking, jogging, and cycling. Education City Stadium also hosts Ladies-only Nights during the summer, providing a safe space for women to engage in activities like walking, jogging, and participating in fun and engaging activities. Indoor swimming pools at QF’s Recreation Centre and Awsaj Recreation Centre offer a refreshing way to cool down while still getting in some LISS exercise. Former Olympic swimmer Nada Mohammed Wafa, a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar and currently employed by the Qatar Olympic Committee, highlights the importance of Education City facilities in promoting LISS exercise and overall community health. These amenities not only encourage regular exercise but also foster a sense of community among residents, students, and visitors through group activities, events, and fitness classes.

Incorporating LISS exercises into daily routines can have long-term benefits, including reduced risks of cardiovascular diseases and improved overall quality of life. With the support of Qatar Foundation, individuals have access to various opportunities to engage in low-intensity activities that promote cardiovascular health and well-being. The cooled walking trails, bike paths, and indoor swimming pools provided by Qatar Foundation create a safe and comfortable environment for individuals to stay active and healthy, even during the hottest months of the year. By participating in LISS exercises regularly, individuals can enjoy a range of physical and mental health benefits, including improved heart function, cholesterol management, weight control, stress reduction, and enhanced mental well-being.
