If you’re a parent with young children, you’ll probably hear “Where’s Santa right now?” a lot on Christmas Eve. Fortunately, tracking tools like the NORAD Santa Tracker and Google’s Santa Tracker make it possible for everyone to follow Father Christmas’s journey. This year, both platforms are leveraging the power of artificial intelligence to enhance the holiday experience, offering new interactive features alongside the traditional tracking maps.

As the anticipation builds, families can utilize these resources to stay updated on Santa’s location and enjoy festive activities. The integration of AI adds a modern twist to beloved holiday traditions, providing entertainment and sparking imagination for children of all ages.

Track Santa Claus with NORAD

The NORAD Santa Tracker has a long history, originating in 1955. What began as a simple response to a child’s inquiry about Santa’s whereabouts has evolved into a sophisticated, globally recognized program. Initially, the tracker offered a basic animation of Santa’s sleigh, but it has since expanded to include a wealth of features.

Recently, NORAD partnered with OpenAI to introduce AI-powered tools. These include an image generator that transforms selfies into animated elf characters, offering a personalized touch. Users can also generate toy ideas and convert them into printable coloring pages, fostering creativity. A fill-in-the-blank storytelling tool allows families to collaboratively create a unique holiday narrative.

The NORAD **Santa Tracker** now utilizes a 3D visual representation of Santa’s journey, built on Cesium’s open-source 3D mapping library. This provides a more immersive experience compared to previous 2D maps. Bing Maps satellite imagery is also integrated, enhancing the realism of the globe. A “Santa Cam” offers video glimpses of Santa’s deliveries.

Beyond the tracking itself, NORAD’s website features Santa’s North Pole Village, offering a countdown to Christmas, arcade-style games, music, and videos available on their official YouTube channel. The **Santa Tracker** is accessible at noradsanta.org, through dedicated apps for both Apple and Android devices, and on various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter/X, and Instagram. Live updates are also available by calling 1-877-HI-NORAD.

Track Santa Claus with Google

Google’s **Santa Tracker** launched in 2004 and provides a simulated tracking experience. The platform displays Santa’s current location, his next destination, a live video feed of his route, and estimated arrival times. It also calculates the total distance traveled and the number of presents delivered, offering a comprehensive overview of his progress.

Throughout December, the Google platform transforms into Santa’s Village, offering a variety of interactive games and educational activities. These include “Elf Maker” for character creation and “Code Boogie” for learning basic coding skills. Users can also access the North Pole Newscast via Google Assistant and even place a call to Santa.

As Christmas Eve progresses, both the NORAD and Google **Santa Trackers** will provide real-time updates on Santa’s location. The continued development of these platforms, particularly with the integration of AI, suggests a commitment to evolving the tradition of tracking Santa for future generations. It remains to be seen how AI will further shape the experience in the years to come, but the current additions demonstrate a clear trend toward increased interactivity and personalization.
