Doha, Qatar – The Ministry of Interior (MOI) is encouraging citizens and residents to utilize the “Communicate with Us” feature within the Metrash app to report violations related to private security companies. This includes complaints about misconduct by security personnel, unlicensed security operations, and improper establishment of security firms. The announcement, made recently, aims to streamline the reporting process and enhance oversight of Qatar’s growing private security sector.

The MOI’s directive applies to all individuals within Qatar and is effective immediately. Residents and citizens can now directly submit concerns regarding security services through a secure and accessible digital channel, rather than relying solely on traditional methods like phone calls or in-person visits to police stations. This move is part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety and accountability.

Streamlining Security Complaints via the Metrash App

The Ministry of Interior has been actively expanding the functionality of the Metrash application, a key component of Qatar’s digital government strategy. The app currently provides access to over 400 services, ranging from traffic fine payments to visa applications. Adding a dedicated channel for security-related complaints demonstrates a commitment to responsive governance and citizen engagement.

According to the MOI, the process for submitting a complaint is straightforward. Users begin by selecting the “Communicate with us” option on the Metrash home screen. From there, they choose “complaints,” then specify the nature of their issue, and provide the necessary details.

How to File a Complaint

The MOI outlined the following steps for submitting a complaint:

  1. Select ‘Communicate with us’ on the Metrash app home screen.
  2. Choose ‘complaints’.
  3. Select the specific ‘type of complaint’.
  4. Fill in all required data accurately.
  5. Confirm the validity of the information provided.
  6. Click ‘next’ to submit.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of providing accurate information when filing a complaint. This ensures that investigations can be conducted efficiently and effectively. The Metrash app utilizes secure encryption to protect user data and maintain confidentiality.

This initiative comes as Qatar experiences growth in sectors requiring private security, such as construction, hospitality, and event management. The increased demand has led to a corresponding rise in the number of security companies operating within the country. Effective regulation and oversight are therefore crucial to maintaining standards and protecting the public. Relatedly, the MOI also regulates private security training in the country.

Previously, reporting violations by security firms often involved navigating multiple channels and potentially facing language barriers. The Metrash app, available in both Arabic and English, offers a unified and accessible platform for all residents. This centralized system is expected to improve the speed and transparency of complaint resolution. The move also aligns with Qatar’s broader push for digital transformation across public services.

The Ministry has not specified a timeframe for resolving complaints submitted through the app, but officials suggest that the streamlined process will lead to quicker response times. The success of this new system will likely be measured by the volume of complaints received and the efficiency with which they are addressed. Furthermore, the MOI will likely monitor the impact on the overall quality of security services provided in Qatar.

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Interior is expected to continue enhancing the Metrash app with additional services and features. Future updates may include the ability to track the status of submitted complaints and receive notifications regarding their resolution. The long-term effectiveness of this initiative will depend on ongoing public awareness campaigns and continued investment in the app’s functionality.

The MOI has not announced any plans to alter existing regulations governing security companies, but the increased scrutiny facilitated by the Metrash app could prompt future revisions. Stakeholders in the security industry will be watching closely to see how the new reporting system impacts compliance and enforcement.
