The Qatar Rehabilitation Institute (QRI), part of the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), recently hosted a workshop to introduce the Rehabilitation Data System (RDS), supported by the World Health Organization (WHO). The RDS is a data-driven platform that assists healthcare professionals in making informed decisions for personalized patient care. This initiative aims to provide the right therapy to the right individuals at the right time, ensuring quality, safety, and optimal recovery standards are maintained.

During the workshop, experts from various public and private healthcare sectors, including HMC, PHCC, The View Hospital, Al Emadi Hospital, and Al Ahli Hospital, came together to collaborate on the implementation of the RDS in Qatar. The event aimed to lay the groundwork for a unified effort in transforming healthcare delivery and improving rehabilitation services across the country. This collaboration will help in integrating a Routine Health Information Systems (RHIS) rehabilitation module into the RDS.

Nine key rehabilitation indicators were identified during the workshop, which will be reported regularly to the WHO. These indicators form the foundation of the RHIS rehabilitation module and will play a crucial role in the ongoing optimization of rehabilitation services in Qatar. Dr. Hanadi Al Hamad, Deputy Chief of Rehabilitation, Long Term Care, and Geriatric Services at HMC, has been leading this transformation in collaboration with the WHO. Her visionary leadership has been instrumental in pushing forward this initiative towards improving patient outcomes and aligning with the National Health Strategy 2024 to 2030.

Dr. Hanadi emphasized the significance of integrating the WHO’s RHIS rehabilitation module, stating that it will not only track rehabilitation progress but also improve patient outcomes. By making rehabilitation services more accessible, effective, and patient-centered, Qatar aims to reinforce its position as a leader in global healthcare. Dr. Wouter De Groote, a resource person for WHO’s Rehabilitation Programs, highlighted the importance of adopting standardized rehabilitation indicators, stating that it will help Qatar better understand and address the unmet needs of its population. He further mentioned that Qatar’s initiative could serve as an inspiration for other nations in the region to implement similar systems in their healthcare sectors.

The implementation of the Rehabilitation Data System represents a significant milestone in the advancement of rehabilitation services in Qatar. By utilizing real-time data and standardized indicators, healthcare professionals can make informed decisions that lead to improved patient outcomes and enhanced quality of care. The collaboration between HMC, WHO, and other healthcare institutions in Qatar demonstrates a commitment to transforming healthcare delivery and prioritizing personalized patient care. With the integration of the RHIS rehabilitation module, Qatar is paving the way for a more efficient and effective healthcare system that aligns with international standards and best practices. This initiative will not only benefit the population of Qatar but also set a benchmark for healthcare systems in the region to follow.
