A Royal Spectacle at Al Fateh Square

The ceremony commenced with the arrival of His Majesty the Sultan, received by esteemed dignitaries including HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Gen. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Nu’amani, Minister of the Royal Office, and Vice Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis Al Ra’eesi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF). Her Highness the Honourable Lady Assayida Ahd Abdullah Hamed Al Busaidi, Spouse of the Sultan of Oman, also attended, adding to the event’s grandeur. Upon ascending the Royal Dais, columns of the armed forces immediately rendered a crisp military salute, setting a tone of respect and discipline.

Symbolic Salutes and Anthems

The Royal Anthem resonated throughout the square, played by a joint corps of military bands. This was followed by a traditional 21-gun salute fired by the Sultan of Oman’s Artillery at the Royal Army of Oman (RAO), a booming tribute to His Majesty the Sultan. The parade commander, displaying impeccable horsemanship, then requested permission to begin the exhibition of Omani military strength.

Parade Units Showcase Oman’s Defense Forces

The Muscat parade featured a comprehensive representation of Oman’s defense capabilities, involving units from the Royal Army of Oman (RAO), the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO), the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), the Royal Guard of Oman (RGO), the Sultan’s Special Force (SSF), and the Royal Oman Police (ROP). This impressive display highlighted the integrated nature of the Oman Armed Forces and their collective readiness.

The joint corps of military music bands, comprised of representatives from the SAF, RGO, ROP and the Royal Court Affairs (RCA), captivated the audience with their precision and musicality, performing an array of stirring tunes. The performance moved at both a solemn pace and with energetic momentum, further demonstrating the versatility of Oman’s forces.

Ceremonial Precision and Tradition

Columns of the Protocols Guard showcased their refined ceremonial gestures, perfectly synchronized with the melodies of the music bands. These intricate movements served as a potent symbol of Oman’s rich cultural heritage and its dedication to tradition. Following this, troops in camouflage uniform representing the SAF, RGO, SSF, and ROP marched with unwavering discipline, adding to the spectacle.

A particularly poignant moment was the presentation by the Firaq Forces of the RAO, who performed “Al Habout”, a traditional Omani folklore chant. This performance infused a strong element of national identity and cultural pride into the proceedings. Additionally, mounted bands executed a captivating musical display, showcasing a unique blend of artistry and military precision.

Aerial Display and Expressions of Loyalty

The skies above Al Fateh Square then came alive with an exhilarating aerial demonstration. Fighters and rotary-wing aircraft from the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) performed intricate formations, symbolizing the nation’s advanced air defense capabilities and the ongoing modernization of the Oman Armed Forces under His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. This display served as a clear demonstration of their combat efficiency and preparedness.

Culminating the parade, all participating columns erupted in a chorus of cheers, powerfully proclaiming “Faith in Allah, Loyalty to the Sultan, Sacrifice for the Nation”. The resounding refrain “Long Live His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Supreme Commander” echoed through the square three times, signifying the deep-rooted affection and commitment of the armed forces to their leader and country.

National Unity and Distinguished Guests

The Oman National Day parade was more than just a military demonstration; it was a powerful expression of national unity and pride. The audience included members of the Royal family, dignitaries from the Al Busaidi family, esteemed ministers, advisors, commanders of the SAF and security services, heads of diplomatic missions from Arab and foreign countries, alongside representatives from the State Council and Shura Council. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the widespread support for His Majesty the Sultan’s vision for Oman.

As His Majesty the Sultan departed the parade ground, the event closed on a high note, leaving a lasting impression on all who witnessed the display of strength, loyalty and national pride. The entire event showcased Oman’s commitment to both its heritage and its future, and highlighted the pivotal role of its armed forces in securing national prosperity.

This Muscat parade offered a compelling glimpse into the capabilities and the dedication of Oman’s defense forces.
