Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s College of Science and Engineering (CSE) in Doha, Qatar, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NASA to explore potential collaboration on quantum technologies. The MoU will be executed by CSE’s Qatar Center for Quantum Computing (QC2) and will focus on technology development for quantum communications, networking, and sensors for space-based applications. This collaboration aims to model and test systems for various use cases, such as blind quantum computing and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI).

CSE’s QC2 and NASA will also work together on developing future space-based quantum missions for technology demonstration and testing of related quantum technologies and capabilities. Additionally, both parties will explore joint efforts in training, education, and workforce development in emerging quantum technologies. This will involve designing specialized educational programs to enhance local capacity building and attract talent from Qatar and the region.

Dr. Saif Al Kuwari, the Director of QC2, emphasized the significance of the MoU in advancing knowledge through collaboration with world-renowned partners like NASA. He highlighted the ambitious scope of the collaboration, aligning with the quantum center’s objectives to drive innovation and progress in the field of quantum technologies. HBKU’s CSE is dedicated to leading research in disciplines of national and global importance, aiming to find solutions to pressing issues and equip students with the skills to excel in their fields.

The partnership between HBKU’s CSE and NASA reflects a commitment to advancing quantum technologies for societal and economic impact. By exploring collaboration in quantum communications, networking, and sensors for space applications, both parties are poised to push the boundaries of innovation in the field. The joint efforts in training, education, and workforce development will create opportunities for growth and knowledge exchange in emerging quantum technologies.

This collaboration signals a strategic move towards fostering cutting-edge research and technology development in the field of quantum computing. By leveraging the expertise and resources of both HBKU’s CSE and NASA, the partnership aims to drive progress in quantum technologies and contribute to local capacity building in Qatar and the region. The collaboration underscores the commitment to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and addressing societal and economic needs through high-impact research initiatives.

The signing of the MoU between QC2 and NASA represents a significant milestone in advancing quantum technologies for space-based applications. The joint exploration of potential collaborations in quantum missions and technology development underscores the mutual commitment to innovation and progress in the field. As both parties embark on this journey of collaboration, the prospects for groundbreaking advancements in quantum technologies and their applications in space science and observation are promising.

In conclusion, the partnership between HBKU’s CSE and NASA signifies a strategic alliance aimed at advancing quantum technologies for global impact. Through joint efforts in technology development, education, and workforce training, the collaboration promises to drive innovation and progress in the field of quantum computing. By pushing the boundaries of knowledge and research, HBKU and NASA are poised to make significant contributions to the advancement of quantum technologies and their applications in space-based science and observation.
