U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris recently took a stand against suggestions that Ukraine should give up territory for the sake of peace with Moscow. She criticized those in her country who support this idea, saying that it is dangerous and unacceptable. Harris made these comments during a press conference in Washington alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She indirectly criticized Republican candidate Donald Trump’s push for Ukraine to quickly end the war with Russia, stating that such proposals are similar to those of Russian President Vladimir Putin and are not for peace but for surrender.

Trump has faced criticism for his handling of the situation in Ukraine, with some accusing him of being too soft on Russia and not doing enough to support Ukraine. In response to Harris’ comments, Trump defended his approach and stated that he only wants to stop the ongoing “horror show.” He also mentioned the possibility of Ukraine giving up territory to achieve peace. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of a lasting and just peace for Ukraine, emphasizing the need to keep sanctions against Russia strong and bring Russian war criminals to justice.

During his visit to Washington, Zelenskyy presented his plans for reaching an endgame in the war, including a push to lift restrictions on using long-range Western weapons. While there was no movement on this issue during his visit, President Joe Biden announced increased military support for Ukraine. Additionally, EU Council President Charles Michel called on China to reconsider its support for Russia and ensure that the United Nations Charter is respected. He expressed the EU’s commitment to supporting Ukraine and promoting global peace based on the principles of the UN Charter.

In summary, the recent press conference with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and President Joe Biden highlighted the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the efforts of the international community to support Ukraine and end the war with Russia. The comments made by Harris and Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of a just peace for Ukraine and the need to hold Russia accountable for its actions. The support from the EU and calls for China to rethink its support for Russia also underscore the global concern over the situation in Ukraine and the desire to see a resolution based on international principles. The visit of Zelenskyy to Washington and the increased military support from the U.S. demonstrate a commitment to helping Ukraine defend its sovereignty and reach a resolution to the conflict.
