Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in Doha, Qatar is set to undergo a major modernization program for Hamad General Hospital that will involve a comprehensive upgrade of systems and facilities. This renovation project, expected to last for three years, aims to significantly enhance the patient experience. HMC’s Chief of Health Facilities Development, Hamad Nasser Abdulla Al Khalifa, highlighted the importance of upgrading the hospital’s systems and facilities, stating that it has been a key player in Qatar’s healthcare system for over 40 years.

The first phase of the renovation work will focus on upgrading the two inpatient towers and the ground floor below them. This phase is scheduled to begin in 2025 and will include the creation of single rooms and the implementation of advanced technical systems to improve patient care. The renovation program aims to create modern environments that will enhance the overall care experience for patients. Despite the upcoming changes, Hamad General Hospital will continue to be the busiest hospital within HMC’s network, offering a wide range of specialist healthcare services.

Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital, Dr Muna Al Maslamani, assured that the hospital will continue to provide essential services to patients throughout the renovation process. She mentioned that more than 370 beds will remain open, covering medical, surgical, critical care services, as well as the Trauma and Emergency Center, Bone and Joint Center, Pediatric Emergency Centers, and Fahad Bin Jassim Kidney Center. The hospital will also operate under normal conditions during the renovation period, ensuring that patients receive high-quality care without interruptions.

HMC’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Abdulla Al Ansari, emphasized the significant expansion of HMC’s capacity in recent years. Since 2016, HMC has opened nine new hospitals, including Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiyah Hospital and the Medical Care and Research Center. These new facilities will play a vital role in receiving the relocated services from Hamad General Hospital. The closure of some beds at Hamad General Hospital will be balanced out by the increase in overall bed capacity across HMC’s network, ensuring that patients continue to receive necessary care without any disruptions.

The relocation plan for services moving out of Hamad General Hospital during the renovation period will be announced in detail in the coming months. This plan will involve the shifting of outpatient clinics to other hospitals within HMC’s network, while maintaining essential services at Hamad General Hospital. The upgrade of systems and facilities at the hospital is a significant step towards enhancing the overall healthcare experience for patients in Qatar.

In conclusion, the modernization program for Hamad General Hospital is a crucial initiative by HMC to improve patient care and upgrade healthcare facilities in Qatar. The renovation work will create modern environments, implement advanced technical systems, and provide single rooms to enhance the overall care experience for patients. Despite the upcoming changes, Hamad General Hospital will continue to offer a wide range of specialist healthcare services to patients, ensuring that high-quality care is provided without any interruptions. With the expansion of capacity across HMC’s network and the opening of new hospitals, the relocation of services from Hamad General Hospital will be managed effectively to maintain the continuity of care for patients.
