Light rains and heavy drizzles have hit some parts of the UAE, particularly the country’s eastern coast as per videos posted by the Storm Centre. In response to these weather conditions, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued two yellow alerts on Sunday, August 18. The alerts were for fresh to strong winds reaching 50kmph, causing blowing dust and sand, as well as a decline in horizontal visibility dropping to less than 3000 metres at times over internal areas. Additionally, another yellow alert was issued for fresh winds reaching 40kmph and rough seas in the Oman Sea with waves reaching up to six feet at times over the Arabian Gulf, from 12.15pm to 12.15pm. A similar alert was issued on Saturday, lasting until 1pm on Sunday. The overall forecast for the UAE predicts a generally fair and partly cloudy day, with the possibility of increased cloud cover over the eastern coast and potential rainfall due to the appearance of low clouds in the eastern and southern areas by afternoon.
Residents can expect humid conditions at night, which will persist until Monday morning in some western areas. Light to moderate winds, freshening at times, are expected to cause dust and sand movements, particularly in the northern and eastern regions. The sea conditions will be moderate and may become rough at times in the Arabian Gulf, while the Oman Sea is expected to be rough to moderate.
